Hey, I'm a very new newbie and I'm looking for some support when dealing with tricky subjects
I need some help when dealing with those trickier subjects and how to best help people who say they are abused
@Lizziegrace32 Hi Lizzie! This is the kind of question you can discuss with your mentor.
As far as I can tell, there are two different approaches to listening at 7 Cups.
One approach is to provide emotional support. In this case you focus on the feelings and emotions that the member tells you about. You do not try to solve whatever problems they may have in their lives. By helping them with their feelings and emotions, you empower them to solve the problems in their lives for themselves. When using this approach there are no tricky subjects, but there might be tricky emotions.
The other approach is to provide advice. Most listeners who provide advice try to disguise it in some way to make it seem less advicey. When using this approach any subject you do not have expert knowledge of can be tricky. It is often best to advise the member to go to some other website or agency. You could try to find out what country they are in and use Google to identify appropriate resources for the member (if you know the language).
If you'd ever like to chat about listening, feel free to message me, but note that I am not a mentor myself.
