Social anxiety, co-dependent on parents...anyone relate?
Is there anyone here whom i could talk to that grew up with overbearing parents...Anyone overly dependent on others because you are so afraid of screwing up, or that you will be disregarding someone else's feelings if you do anything for youself?
Someone with experience overcoming co-dependent relationships would be so helpful. I am 29 and still never lived on my own. It's depressing but I am SO AFRAID of failure. The last time I failed I locked myself in the bathroom and bawled for hours, which I realize is not normal and it is embarrassing that i get like that. If anyone can relate, feel free to message me. (I am new to this site so forgive me if idk how it all works yet!)

I am always afraid of screwing up and thinking I will hurt someone's feelings if I were to stand up for myself more. That hasn't changed since I was little..though I started having problems with social anxiety at college, when I started losing contact with my friends from school. I haven't found a solution, but I have been trying to talk to people more (not recently, but last year and before), through volunteering and talking with friends of friends. It did feel a bit better. I think practicing continually would help and if we gave ourselves some challenges, talk about how it and support each other. If you would like to do that?
Also, crying is a healthy thing to do, we relieve the tension and express our emotions..I am actually a bit envious, because usually when I am feeling sad I don't have an urge to cry, I have more of a habit to supress my emotions.
Oh, and my sister is 29 and I am 25, we are both living with our parents. I was just thinking how it would be nice to move out...or at least spend a week at my friends new apartment.
