Short Version: I have been dealing with depression since 1998. Unfortunatelythe type of depression I have is a chemical imbalance and not mentally or emotionally triggered. It's cyclic, sometimes I'm fine and sometimes I get very depressed. One of my best friends got me to join Tumbler and I decided to look for tags about depression. I was pointed here, which has helped. This sitehas been able to fill in a lot of the gaps in my support network. So thank you 7 Cups of Tea!

Long Version: I have been dealing with depression since 1998, but didn't get it diagnosed until other issues started showing up after a car accident in 2004. Because of the issues from the car accident I was not only diagnosed with Major Depressionand Anxiety, but also Fibromyalgia that was triggered by my knee and back injury (from the car accident). Unfortunatelythe type of depression I have is a chemical imbalance and not mentally or emotionally triggered. It's cyclic, sometimes I'm fine and sometimes I get very depressed. Sometimes the timing is good and I can talk to friends or family near me, but other times it hits at midnight and I would feel awful calling someone when I'm just feeling 'off'. Especiallyas the cycles can last anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks at a time, and I feel like I'm doing ok with it most day, but other days I crack under it.One of my best friends got me to join Tumbler and I decided to look for tags about depression so I wouldn't feel so alone and maybe to find inspiration to feel better. I was pointed here as well as their search finding what I was looking for, which has helped. When I start feeling really bad it is hard for me to talk aloud about it. Writing things out helps a lot more, but on a personal level I've always wished people might respond to what I say, even with a "that sucks."This sitehas been able to fill in a lot of the gaps in my support network, some of which I didn't realize I even had. It's hard to explain sometimes why you feel the way you do. So thank you 7 Cups of Tea!

Tumblr is filled with helpful things. Not only should you track the depression tag, but also tags or blogs for other conditions you have. Facebook also has support groups and often people post helpful advice. Tumblr is great for advice and feeling like you're not alone, but it can also be good for a smile on a bad day. I follow some blogs that post only pictures of cute animals which I've always found to bring a smile and make me feel at least a little bit better.
