The quiet intimacy of feeling at home in your skin
Sometimes the smallest moments feel the most powerful, slipping into clothes that brush softly against your skin, or catching your reflection when you least expect it and realizing you like what you see. I’ve been thinking about how rarely we talk about those private moments of comfort and confidence. What are little things that make you feel at home in your own body?
@LanaAfterDark Hi, thank you for highlighting this beautiful topic! I believe many women struggle quite a lot with being unable to fully accept their bodies (and I'm one of them). I recognize those little moments you're talking about, like a glimpse in a mirror when I think - oh, I actually look ok. Or like when I have a sleeveless dress and feel a mild summer wind on my arms. But I'm still learning to notice myself and accept my body. Ironically, a serious illness has helped me appreciate my body more, all the "features" that it does (like breathing or walking, for example), which we often take for granted. Sometimes it might be worth truly taking a moment to think about those, like, I've been always disappointed that my feet are "too big" (you know, not like those iconic ones we see in movies wearing high heels every day), but then again - I am so thankful that my feet can take me for a long, long walk in a park and are letting me enjoy the beauty of nature. It sounds so basic and cliche, but being aware of our own bodies in that way might help us be more self-compassionate.
