Married SIngle Mother Overview
TW: Marriages/Women problem/ Overview
Hello everyone, and Happy Timezone!
It's your lovely forum supporter InsightfulPhoenix, and I wanted to speak on the widely known term that has been classified as "Single Married Mother."
What is a Married Single Mother?
A Married Single Mother is a woman that marries a man who does all the thinking, chores of the household, childcare, sometimes working, and carries the marriage on her shoulders.
Single Married Mothers have been on a rise as of late, and before I get into the researched information. I wanted to lay down my perspective first, I feel that this generation of husbands have been taught by their father's the ways to repel responsibility and dodge accountability for the distortion of what true equal share of responsibility looks like. As women, I feel that from a young age we were not taught to be independent, we were taught how to submit unfairly, and take on the burden. From being taught how to fold laundry, sweep the floors correctly, mop them to pristine condition, care for other children (especially if you are an older sibling such as myself.), and much more.
Now let us begin the researched information, this term has surfaced because of the viral video that went crazy a while back when the mom is handling everything, and the man (her husband) is entranced in his phone. This video angered many of women, and including the older generation of mother's because they are recognizing that this generation of husband's are disinterested in responsibility, and find ways to deflect it. The reason why this video was upsetting is because he did absolutely nothing to help, and the reaction time was very poor. Mind boggling right? Here is another reason why the term has becoming effective, and stuck to public. There was another viral video that went crazy awhile ago, as well the husband was recording his wife's reaction to him coming home, and playing his game inside of stepping up to help her. Why this was a problem? The woman said, " I am your wife, you decided to put a ring on my finger, the moment that you chose me. I became the person who guides you to do the right thing. Here is the thing, responsibility does not stop the moment you clock out, there are other responsibilities that need to be done from cleaning, taking a turn with the children, and helping me out." The husband recording proceeds to gaslight her, and emotionally manipulate her by threatening to show it to the divorce lawyer. She then says, " I'm not taking away from the fact you are tired, I can respect that however if you are tired then that is what the bed is for so you can go to bed. It's not for you to use it as a ploy to skip responsibility, and play games all night."
These videos have been used as prime examples as why Married Single Mother has been coined the biggest problem in women's lives. Why? Due to the simple fact that mothers, and women overall are looked as the "default" facilitator or parent. Which over time is daunting, because then it leaves us scrambling for time not only for ourselves, but our friendships become non-existent, and family time becomes a mental chore. Which is why the song from Paris Paloma called "labor" has started to bring women to their feet, and remember it's about partnership.

I think the whole premise is leaving out a lot.....this is not a one size fits all problem. Many multiple layers that those viewing from outside cannot see.
For example I have known many women who micro manage or make the dad feel he is not doing childcare the "right" way which means HER way. I did that when my kids were young. My spouse was and is capable....... I did not have to look over shoulder or critique but i did.
If we look at it on a pure societal way how many sitcoms/ movies etc try to make dads look inept and incapable ......here comes mom juggling all to save the day .......which begs to question why would she marry such a moron. IMO Many men fake or learn helplessness with childcare or household items ... because the woman will pick up the slack. Dads can step up but like most other things do it differently that does not mean Wrong.
Perhaps we should consider moms who do not ask for help want the admiration of People saying "how do you do it all" .
This is why I wrote the overview to provide awareness to many aspects, and this is the insight I was anticipating!
Absolutely, sitcoms do portray men as incompetent. However on the flipside, as a societial standpoint they have to be willing to fix that. I also agree that many do indeed fake helplessness, and do to a fault act as if they are incapable of bare minimum responsibilities. I do feel I should do an overview on the matter you speak of.
I really appreciate this feedback, and extra thought!
