About Crf Jary Barreto Crisis Center

The Jary Barreto Crisis Center offers a voluntary alternative to psychiatric hospitalization in San Diego's Logan Heights neighborhood. This Short-Term Acute Residential Treatment (START) program serves adults 18 and older who are experiencing severe psychiatric crises in a supportive, home-like environment. While primarily focused on mental health conditions, the center also accommodates individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders when these are secondary to their mental health needs. Clients typically stay about nine days and must have medically stable conditions that can be managed on an outpatient basis. The center provides comprehensive care including psychiatric evaluations, medication management, individual and group counseling, life skills training, substance use treatment, recreational activities, and thorough discharge planning. Operating as part of the Community Research Foundation, the program accepts Medi-Cal beneficiaries and uninsured individuals, ensuring that no one is turned away due to inability to pay. To better serve the community, Jary Barreto Crisis Center offers its services in both English and Spanish, making mental health support more accessible to diverse populations in need of immediate intervention.
