About Crf New Vistas Crisis Center
Located in downtown San Diego near the Gaslamp Quarter, New Vistas Crisis Center provides a voluntary, home-like alternative to psychiatric hospitalization. This Short-Term Acute Residential Treatment (START) program serves adults 18 and older who are experiencing severe psychiatric crises. While primarily focused on mental health conditions, the center also supports individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders, though these cannot be the primary concern. Clients must have medically stable conditions that can be managed at an outpatient level and must willingly agree to program guidelines. The typical stay averages nine days. The center offers comprehensive services including psychiatric evaluations, medication management, individual and group counseling, life skills education, integrated substance use treatment, recreational activities, and thorough discharge planning. As part of the Community Research Foundation, New Vistas accepts Medi-Cal beneficiaries and uninsured individuals, ensuring that no one is turned away due to inability to pay. To enhance accessibility, services are available in both English and Spanish. Through its personalized approach in a supportive setting, New Vistas Crisis Center effectively helps individuals navigate acute mental health challenges without requiring hospitalization.
