Step Forward North Central, strategically positioned near the Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in San Diego, serves as a specialized CalWORKs Behavioral Health Center. This outpatient facility focuses on helping Welfare-to-Work participants overcome behavioral health barriers that limit their employment opportunities. The center provides comprehensive services including behavioral health assessments, psychiatric evaluations, medication management, counseling in various formats, case management, care coordination, and crisis intervention support. As part of the Community Research Foundation, Step Forward North Central specifically tailors its approach to address the unique challenges faced by CalWORKs participants transitioning from welfare dependency to sustainable employment. The program places particular emphasis on educational and vocational services that build pathways to self-sufficiency. Funded through San Diego County's Behavioral Health Services, the center ensures accessibility by accepting Medi-Cal beneficiaries, Medi-Cal-eligible individuals, and uninsured clients, with a commitment that no one will be turned away due to financial constraints.
