About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Portland, ME, is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of leaders in sustainable agriculture and food justice. Through a comprehensive training program, our Fellows engage in hands-on learning at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, where they immerse themselves in organic food systems education and advocacy for a socially, environmentally, and economically equitable food landscape. With no tuition fees, the Fellowship emphasizes accessibility, empowering participants to champion initiatives like community gardens, farmers markets, and food literacy in schools. This six-month experiential program is followed by a Community Action Year, allowing Fellows to apply their skills with local non-profits and advocate for increased access to healthy foods in their communities. Applications are accepted until March for experiences running from May through October each year.
