About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, based in Portsmouth, NH, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of advocates and teachers in sustainable food systems. Through comprehensive training and real-world experience, this program empowers Fellows to address the urgent need for a food system that is equitable, sustainable, and economically viable. Fellows participate in a six-month immersive experience at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, where they gain hands-on knowledge in organic farming, community food distribution, and educational outreach. This fellowship prioritizes accessibility by charging no tuition, making it possible for participants to engage with various partners to promote diverse crop farming, manage community gardens, and lead initiatives that enhance food literacy. Throughout their Community Action Year, Fellows apply their training in collaboration with local non-profits, building impactful relationships that strengthen regional food systems. Applications are welcomed until March each year, with the program typically running from May to October.
