About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

Located in Essex Junction, VT, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship empowers passionate individuals to become advocates for a just and sustainable food system. Through this transformative program, sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, selected Fellows engage in immersive training at the Allegheny Farm Campus in Highland County, VA, where they gain invaluable organic food system education. Our Fellows learn to grow and distribute diversified crops, lead educational initiatives in innovative health care, maintain community and school gardens, and integrate food and ecological literacy into educational settings. We foster strong community ties by supporting farmers markets and direct-to-consumer sales, developing distribution channels for healthy food access, and engaging with local food coalitions. This six-month experiential fellowship culminates in a Community Action Year, allowing participants to apply their training in collaboration with regional non-profits. We proudly offer this fellowship tuition-free to enhance accessibility and invite aspiring leaders to apply by March each year for an experience that typically runs from May to October.
