I bit myself when I'm angry and that calms me down a lot and it leaves no much bruise. Why should I stop?

The biting might not have a visible effect right away but by depending on destructive coping mechanisms you keep yourself from learning how to deal with negative emotions in a constructive way. With self-harm there is also the risk of it becoming an addiction: when you hurt yourself your body releases endorphines which is why you feel better and calmer when you bite yourself. With them this effect may wear down and you will need more pain to get the same effect. What may seem minimal now might turn into something really serious and you might end up being unable to cope with feelings of hurt or anger without damaging yourself. When you're feeling stressed out I recommend you do something constructive to release the excess energy - go for a walk, exercise, punch a pillow, go out into a field and scream your lungs out. Let the negativety out but not on yourself. Please take care. x

As someone who frequently bites himself, this is a very serious issue and it will not solve your problems. For me, I get a better feeling biting myself than to rather go outside. I've tried using toys to bite instead but they don't work as well. In fact, I've been substituting my own self to other things like furniture. When it does get worse, people like you and me begin to realize that we can develop this sensation and we become addicted to the point we make ourselves mad or anxious. For me, it has gotten to the point where I've never seen a day where I have not hurt myself. I have bruises upon bruises hitting and biting myself, I, however, have a scheduled appointment. The best solution is to talk to your doctor for a reference or find a therapist, psychologist, etc to diagnose you. If anything like walking outside or substituting works for you, that's amazing! But please, keep in mind this is something you cannot keep doing and do not take this issue as a phase or a joke because it's only going to get worse as you progress. Take care!

The simplest answer I could give is that when you self-harm, it's always a temporary fix that unfortunately sometimes leaves permanent scars.
You may feel better when you are biting yourself but that does not mean to say you'll be better in ten, fifteen minutes time.
There are lots of healthy alternatives you could do when you feel angry such as singing, writing, drawing, listening to music, going for walks, exercise -- they can help a lot more than biting yourself.
Take care and stay strong!

Biting yourself is still a form of self-harm even if it doesn't leave a mark. That's why you should stop. Instead try doing something to calm yourself down. Try eliminating all that stress you feel inside by running as fast as you can till your legs can't move anymore. This is a very good way of eliminating anger or stress or adrenaline. It basically works the same way as biting yourself i mean your legs will hurt a lot if you run as fast as you can but it's actually good for your body. I hope this helps

What tends to happen with self-harm is it starts with small things that you may think nothing of and then it develops into behaviors that can be more harmful. While this may calm you down their are other less self abusive behaviors that can calm you down. I would suggest contacting a therapist to get ideas for other solutions to calm yourself down.

You should stop because even if it leaves no mark or bruise. You are still damaging yourself. Later in life you might regret it, and you'll always be left with the memories.

You should stop because even though it may not leave mark, your biting is still considered self-harm. Once habits like that begin however it is almost impossible to stop them, so if strongly recommend you stop soon.

Because sooner or later it will get to the point where it becomes addictive and you start to bite harder (it is a form of self harm even if it doesn't leave a mark).

Personally, I don't think it is something you should do when you're angry just because it could eventually harm yourself if you bit down too hard or what have you. Maybe instead of stopping you could replace biting with something less harmful to you and your body if you can. Everyone has some coping ways when they have hit a certain emotion, I know when I'm mad or just really out of it, I notice I need to do something because my feet/heel will tap the floor a lot and very fast and then when I get time, I go running and that helps me, or I workout to kind of release that stress going on for me.

Because that is a form of self harm, it can lead to a mindset where you associate self inflicted pain as release and calm. This mindset can be very dangerous and lead to other methods of self harm, it is best to always find healthy ways to deal with frustrations long term rather than taking the sometimes easier quick solutions we see in the moment.
