Friendships....are complicated for me.

...See more  Just a warning: <LONG READ> A bit of backstory/context: Friendships have always been a bit difficult for me. Most of my childhood was spent inside my room watching TV or YouTube. I wasn't really allowed to truly make friends with the kids at school (for example, I wasn't allowed to have any of them over or go to their houses, nor was I allowed to attend any events they were throwing.) Basically, I see them for about 8 hours, and then we go our separate ways, and while I heard stories of them hanging out together in leisure, I was in my room, alone. I wanted friends, I really did, but I wasn't allowed to make any. So I did the next best thing: I made "friends" with the YouTubers I was watching. ( I would just call them my friends) And this went on for years. I eventually got used to this and stopped pursuing friends altogether. Sights that used to cause me immense loneliness and anger (like seeing a friend group hanging out and having fun) now barely raise in me a feeling of ambivalence. Maybe it's growth, maybe it's a bad coping strategy. At this moment, I'm not really sure. I used to hate being alone, but now it's the only thing I am truly comfortable with. I used to need companionship badly, but now I am content with solitude. Now, to the reason I'm writing this. I, by reason of my clowining (my genial countenance, or "face" when I am around others), have people who would consider me their friend. Although I do not consider myself their friend. We only see each other twice a week for approximately an hour and a half, every single week (not even that, more akin to 15 minutes, 30 minutes maximum every session).  Regardless of this, they (multiple people btw) consider me their friend. Yet I loathe going there every single week. I despise having to communicate, and would much rather stay home by myself. But due to circumstances beyond my control, I am denied this pleasure. So every week, I attend, and every week, I leave feeling worse than when I stepped foot in the building. Everyone, of course, is unaware of how I feel. ( I promise this will make sense very soon) So recently, I fell ill and missed a few sessions. I enjoyed these missed opportunities greatly. I felt at peace, and greatly needed the break. But of course, all things pass, and I eventually got better, and as my illness subsided, I knew that the inevitable would occur, and I would have to return to the place I sought refuge from. I did not enjoy my return.  It was especially difficult for me to muster up the same forced geniality as before. And I fear it showed. The very same people who were kind and good-natured toward me received little more than shallow greetings from me. (Of course, I was cordial and agreeable) Yet, I was not as indulgent in making conversation with them. There would always seem to be a convenient distraction posed to me by another person, and I was all too willing to participate in an escape/shift focus away from me. Sometimes there was a distraction, other times there was none, and I was forced to act as if I were so engaged in a conversation or thought that I would rush right past them, without a word. And I can see in their faces that they notice.  In the past, I've had a nasty habit of this. It was incredibly difficult for me to force conversations about things that I did not concern myself with, with people I had a very indifferent regard of...so I would ignore them. Not out of spite or malice, but simply because puerile conversations bored me to tears. However, this was different. Although the same escape strategy was implemented, the reasons were different, the reason being that they were the opposite gender from me. Now, before you view me as biased or a big*ted, please allow me to explain.  For my entire life, I was influenced by gendered expectations and scrutiny within the religious community. To put it simply, the environment mirrored a panopticon. While there were no prison cells, there were cells of conduct, so to speak. This, and the reality that many in this figurative panopticon were raging gossipers, caused me to be wary of my interactions with the opposite gender, namely, men.  So... you understand the issue?  I had partially ignored people (guys) who were kind to me in the past due to a lack of human exposure, and the ever-present reminder that every person is watching my every move, and anything can be misconstrued as a romantic gesture, and cause repercussions. Especially since I do have romantic feelings toward one of them. ( No one is aware of this)  So, dear reader, I require advice. How do I navigate this? How should I balance my need for solitude with their "friendship"? How could I apologize?  Thank you for reading.

...See more Where hugs and h*rm reside. Where songs and screams prevail Where give and take collide Be in fear when she bewails. Those nursing eyes, so brown and deep Turn red with pure, pure rage I fear in them that I may drown  Beware the cruel rampage. Perpetually soothing the pains in my neck  From the whiplash I endure. From the very person I “love” and “trust”  From the person I used to adore. So kind, so cruel, So nice, so mean, So sweet, so bitter, Will encourage, will demean. How does it feel to see a stranger, in the first eyes I ever saw? How does it feel to touch the finger that now feels like a claw? How does it feel to fear the person who is supposed to keep you safe? How does it feel to run away from the one who gives eternal chase? Poison can be mistaken for medicine And venom mistaken for an antidote The ax forgets, the tree remembers. But I wear a smile as my coat The words you say, the things you yell Still echoes in my skull And there they will stay eternally As mind illness takes its toll. I fear your footsteps near my room I fear it when you call. Your puppet strings have grown so tight. But if I let go, I fall.

...See more TW: Symptoms? So... I'm 95% sure I've got a problem. That problem being Quiet/Discouraged BPD.  Now, just to say one thing, no, I have not been formally diagnosed. And even if I were to go in for one, I don't think I would be anyway, since I am a minor. (Perhaps, perhaps not) But I feel like I just need to get this out there.  I do fit a good chunk of the symptoms: Intense fear of rejection/A pattern of idealizing others and then devaluing and discarding them/ Taking small things personally (e.g., assuming someone is ignoring you/ Feeling numb or empty inside/Self isolation or avoidance as a form of self protection when you are feeling overwhelmed/ SH that is hidden from others so that they don't suspect that something is wrong/ A feeling of hopelessness a majority of the time (e.g., existential angst/ Becoming obsessed with a specific person and wanting to spend as much time as you can with that person/ Racing or distorted thoughts/Having a hard time talking about your feelings/ derealization rather than dissociation (This technically wasn't written as a symptom in the first article I referenced but other sources say it is...idk.)/Internalization (this was mainly due to growing up in an environment where it was safer to stay quiet and obey) Now... I have been dealing with this all of my life, and yes, it has brought me a great deal of distress. I have taken countless tests and they all said the same thing: Either moderate symptoms or "You Would Benefit From An Evaluation" Every day is hard,  but it feels strangely familiar because it's all I've ever known. But the part that messes with me the most is the obsession.  It's hard for me to love most things now, I can like things very deeply, but love seems...distant, fuzzy, blurry, dangerous etc.  So when this person showed basic human kindness to me, I lost it. Completely.  I think about them all the time, shower them with gifts and compliments. To the point where I have seen them roll their eyes when I give them another. I get jealous that they have so many other friends to call on, while I am a relatively new one.  I at first think they can do no wrong, they are always happy, until I see them express any other emotion, then I get scared, no, petrified. I know logically that it is impossible to expect someone to only be happy and bubbly, but I just got so scared. To the point that on the rare occasion they would text, my heart would beat profusely. And I'd get that feeling when you're about to drop on a roller coaster.  It would take me a ridiculous amount of time to calm down and actually look at the text. Then I would hate them because they had this power over me. The power to make me feel the closest thing to love I've ever felt in a long time. And I would hate them. But then they would hug me and smile. And the fangs and horns I put on them would fade.  And wings would grow, and the halo would shine so brightly. Rinse, wash, repeat.  So... I know this is only explaining one or two criteria, and I know you guys won't diagnose, that's perfectly fine. I'm just asking...do you think it would be beneficial to get an evaluation? I looked throught the guidelines and I don't think I'm violating any of them, but if I am, I'm sorry!

...See more I envy how easily it rolls off their tongues. Like any other word would. As if it doesn’t take a part of them with it. To whomever they say it to. As if they have nothing to lose. I’ve given pieces of myself to everyone I felt it for And those chasms remain. I wish they wouldn’t say it to me  Perchance, I believe they truly mean it.   Perchance I allow them to. Perchance, I allow their love to engulf me  To surround me. To heal me? Perhaps they can mend the broken pieces of my heart back together To pump bl**d back into my l*feless heart To give me a reason. To fill the hollow shell that is my frame with something. Anything To fill the emptiness. … But if they knew they would not. If they knew, they would recoil They do not know I carry so much For if they did, they would pity me. Shake their heads in disappointment And scrunch their eyebrows in shame. As the rest of the crowd would do. Never to see, always to judge. Never to listen, always to assume. And so Is the cycle. Never to be changed because no one wants to face The discomfort it brings.
