❀ How are you doing? Highs? Lows?❀
Hi, I have a week off this week and want to make progress on applying for externships. I am feeling frustrated with myself and the career office, because I am now behind on applying and missed some opportunities. I got one so far from applying early in August. I tried to ask the career office for a better understanding of how many more I should apply for and when, but they didn't really answer and just said I had plenty of time, which made me really angry. Now I am trying to apply to more many months later, and I am angry at myself and the career office for being behind.
❀What are you grateful for today? ❀
I am grateful for making a new friend online.
❀What's your favorite holiday to celebrate?❀
Halloween definitely. I love dressing up and having fun, and love that it doesn't involve family or too much expectation.
@Daydreamer47

thats awesome that you get a week off to relax and to catch up on different things. good luck applying to internships, that sounds really frustrating to feel behind and that you might have missed out on some opportunities. im osrry that the first round didnt work out and now have to apply for more. but you got this, I hope you get a great internship that you are happy at. I hope you have great week ahead friend (:
I feel like a student all over again, that's why I decided to check in here. My brother recently paid a lot of $$ to upgrade a program/course that he first started back in year 2020. It has to do with starting our own business, but the program/course has many Modules of lessons to teach us every step of the way to succeed. The recent upgrade has its perks. Which includes having an assigned coach for the next 6 months to help us in the process, as we work through the modules. They also have a Support team where we can chat online with, for whatever problem we may come across. Some questions, the team will redirect to our Coach, while with some things, they can help and provide us support and guidance. There's also a free 6-month trial to use one of their softwares (but I'm working with the Support Team to get it going, it's not allowing my access at the moment). There are also live workshops that I can attend too. The only problem with some workshops, is that depending on which coach is hosting them, the time zones for where I am are as early as 5am. I find 7am is already early, as I ended up waking around 6am this morning, although I don't have the camera on, it's still better if I'm more awake. My brother lent me his camera, so perhaps with my following workshops, I'll have the camera on.. if that's the case, I'll need to "look" more awake for the early morning ones.
It's good, with my current work schedule (not many shifts in a month), I can make use of my 6 months. I have one week this month (next week), and it seems like nothing has been assigned for me in May. I will double-check that again though. Then, I got a couple of weeks in June.. We have a new Program Clerk, so she doesn't assign and post all my shifts for the year (unlike the previous one). She's only giving me 3 months prior (which is suppose to be the correct way). I was suppose to work last week and this week, because there's a colleague who's living space had a fire two weeks ago (not her unit, she lives in a co-op, and the fire happened on the other end of the building). But with restoration, I guess the residents aren't allowed to return to their suites. So, I'm suppose to work in place of her, but I've said no, mainly because last week, I had a couple of medical appointments, and I wanted to focus on my course and attend the workshops. With this week, my dad as a minor procedure in the hospital (not the one I work at) tomorrow, and I wanted to use my time off for more workshops and courses. Plus, when I worked the last two weeks of March, in the beginning of my block, I sent my availability to my Manager saying I was busy in April. Although the fire was a sudden tragedy, and they could really use my help during her absence. Since I told my Manager ahead of time that I was busy this month, I don't feel as bad for saying NO in covering for her. Plus, I know the others can handle it without me.
Yesterday, a nurse sent out an email. Saying that the medications were placed in the wrong location, and one of the Anesthesiologists made a complaint. Except, she didn't indicate if it was the nurses themselves that placed it in the wrong compartment when they restocked, or if it was one of my teammates. Either way, the first thought that came to mind was, "If it was me, that would never happen".
I'm dreading next week's of work though. Got a new staff joining the team until end of November. Someone whom doesn't like working/talking with/to me. So, the atmosphere between us will be intense. I'm also training a new hire for 2 days next week, as that's all she's available for. With more days of training her in later months. She's the daughter of one of my colleagues, who finished the course to work downstairs. So, she'll be a Casual worker both downstairs and up in the OR.
@FaithfulZareia
@Jaeteuk Sounds like you are very busy and have a lot on your plate! The training module sounds very promising, cool you are learning new things!
Learning new things everyday!
My Manager at work just messaged me, and asked if I can work some hours tomorrow and Friday. I told her, I can only do partials. So, let's see if she still accepts my available hours or not. I have 4 workshops to attend tomorrow, with the last one starting at 3pm. So, I might be able to start my shift by 5pm. But I told my Manager, rather than have my shift end at the usual time of 8pm, to allow me to stay later to get things done if needed (better if my shift could last at least 4hrs). She had "okayed" with me starting at 5pm, but I'm going to be super tired, as my first workshop starts at 5:30am. Then, I told her for Friday, I can only do a morning shift (possibly from 11am to 4:30pm), as I have another workshop at 5pm. And since I live only a few minutes drive away from work, leaving the department at 4:30pm, and getting changed back into street clothes, I should be home by 4:45pm.
I'm not sure if I should tell her what I've been busy with lately.. like, being in this program/course and the need to attend live workshops. So it's not like I'm meaninglessly telling her I'm not available, then feel guilty for it.

hey jae, lovely to see you, thanks for joining our checkin this week,
Sounds like some awesome stuff has been happening! I hope you enjoy getting to be student again. it sounds like this program has many benefits and you could learn lots form all the models and coaches. its always nice to feel you have the knowledge to handle things right. good for you for setting bounderies I hope that you get to split your time nicely between learning and work.im osrry to hear that you were placed blame for something you no do, I can relate to how frustrating that can be, sorry to hear that the new work person doesnt match well with you. can be frustrating when people no get along and there is tension between people, not always fun to go to work then. I wish you the best fo the week ahead and getting to do you learning <3
Thank you, Ezra. I hope this week for work will be okay. I spoke to that problematic person today, just telling her how to maneuver a stretcher better. She didn't say anything to me, but I told her what she could do to help with her steering. No thank you or anything from her though.
The program/course is a good excuse to get myself wake up early and do my own work or attend the workshops. Most of the workshops are either 5am or 7am my time zone, or in the afternoon. But since I'm working this week, I'll only be able to attend ones that start from 5am. Even the 10am workshops will be a bit tight on time, as I usually leave for work by 11am. And workshops can easily go over 1 hr.
