In a dark slump...

...See more I have always had low self esteem. I dont know if Ive ever really truly believed in myself and of what I can be capable of. These past months Ive been in such a slump, and I cant seem to get out of it. Being a quiet, socially awkward 28 year old is taking a toll on me. Why cant I be relaxed in social situations like most? Why do I feel so threatened? Why cant I stop comparing me to everyone else? It never ends well. I go into a negative spiral and in some weird way it feels like I should feel this way, even if I dont. Id love to be confident but I dont know how. What is there to be confident of? My chest is so heavy and this affects my relationship. Some advice? Thank you.

No friends, am I a bad person?

...See more I am turning 28 next week, and I don't have any close friends. I never really had friends. In high school I had 2 friends in my class and we got along. One of them got abused and moved away and I haven't heard from her since. My other friend passed away a couple of years ago. It feels like the older I get, the harder it is for me to "find" friends. I am engaged, and I've gotten to know people through my fiancé. But I don't have any of my own friends. I've had low self esteem and very bad self confidence my whole life. I am a shy and quiet person, which is not a good mix when trying to meet new people. I get very insecure in a social setting. Especially around women. I don't know what it is but I feel very easily threatened by other women. I moved from Europe to the US some years ago, and I can't say I've had very good experience from trying to make friends over here. It's like I don't fit in anywhere. For example, I always find myself in some dark whole every time a woman talks to me and my fiancé, and she's all happy and out going with the same interests as my fiancé. I get quiet and just don't say anything. I smile not to make it obvious I'm insecure. Deep down I'm afraid my fiancé will realize that he would have more fun with one of those American girls. I find my energy drained and I just give up on talking to new people. I constantly compare myself to other people, always try to think of the "right" thing to say to seem interesting and to not push people away. It takes such a huge effort for me, and it feels like I don't have energy. I am so nervous when around people I don't know. Is my lack of friends showing that I am a bad person? Do people think I'm a "bitch" or "too boring" to bother with? I don't know. It's like I've forgotten how to meet new people and make friends. I spend all my time (when not working) with my fiancé. He's the only one I spend time with really. Sorry about the rant, I just don't have anyone to talk to.

7 cups online therapy experience? I never had therapy.

...See more I've never had therapy before, nor have I ever been to any kind of counseling. I've had some traumatic experiences these past years, and I feel like my anxiety and self doubt is growing. I need to do something about it to feel happier and enjoy life more. But I honestly have no idea where to start. I don't have health insurance so I'm not able to find a therapist to talk to in person. So I have been thinking about the online therapy I can pay for here on 7 cups. I would love to hear some inputs from people who have used 7 cups online therapy. Is this a good option? How does it work? Thank you in advance!

So discouraged and down....

...See more I feel so discouraged, tired and don't know what to do. It's always been hard for me to make friends and to "open up" to a new person. The whole "smiling and being as nice as you can" drains a lot of energy. Not because I don't want to be nice, but it feels like a waste of energy for me and like I'm "faking" it. And to give people compliments is also hard for me. I start feeling discouraged and like I'm worth nothing compared to this person. I compare myself to everyone non stop. I've never had high self esteem or much confidence. I've never felt like I'm a person that people like. I'm quiet, shy and mostly keep in the background. People seem intimidated by that. Often people comment on how "quiet" I am. Like that's gonna help. The people I know, I know through my fiancée. I don't have any of my own friends. I feel like it's easier to talk to guys more than girls. But I don't feel like I fit in anywhere. I end up feeling like an outsider no matter what.

What's the point? I don't know what to do

...See more I just need to vent... I am a musician, but a shy introvert. I have had a rough couple of years which made me loose almost all my confidence. I never really believed much in myself or think I'm good enough so that's what I'm struggling with. I kinda lost whatever was left. My partner hosts open mics for musicians and I'm happy for him. I've always struggled with myself trying to get out there and make music. But as I said, I'm a withdrawn introvert and I don't try actively to make friends cause why should I? I was never able to make good friends with anyone except my fiancée. I like going out, have a drink and listen to music and support my partner. But when I tell him I wanna go he says that I should save my money. "What's the point of going if you're not gonna play and make friends?" He says. "You can just buy a six pack and drink that at home, it would be cheaper. " He told me later he was being a dick saying that but I take it seriously. I feel like he just confirms my thoughts like "What is the point?" I'm a people pleaser. And to hear him say this makes me wonder why I play music at all. Maybe I should just stop? I know I'm not good enough. This only confirms it, kind of. I'm not a person who takes up "social space" cause I've been hurt before. So I told him I won't go out anymore, but it kinda feels like I'm preventing myself from doing what I want. I don't want him mad, but just sitting at home is not gonna make me feel better. He's just worried about me spending money at the place so thats why I need to stay home. I don't know what to do with myself...
