Hello! My name's Brian. I am a pretty open person so thought I would write a little about myself. I currently struggle with an autoimmune illness called Hashimotos, GAD, OCD and depression. I was diagnosed officially with ASD 2 years ago but knew I had it since childhood.

I love my faith, 70's, 80's and 90's music. I enjoy history. economics, accounting, mathematics, physics. My favorite TV show is Star Trek: The Next Generation but love the whole Star Trek franchise except for some of the newer series. Some other shows I love are "The Chosen" "The Office" "Seinfeld" "Married With Children" "Everybody Loves Raymond". I love thinking and anything that gets my brain going. 

Some of my favorite movies are below:

  1. Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)
  2. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982),
  3. Atomic Blonde (2017) (Love the music and Cold War setting),
  4. Blade Runner: 2049 - Some of the coolest cinematography ever
  5. Collateral (2003) - Incredible night cinematography and shots!
  6. Jesus of Nazareth (1977 movie/miniseries)
  7. Gettysburg (1993) - Civil War movie
  8. John Wick series
  9. James Bond series (Pierce Brosnan and Roger Moore are my favorite Bonds) Favorite Daniel Craig Bond movie is Skyfall
  10. Demolition Man (1993) - Funny and awesome scifi movie

One neat fact is I used to own a Sega Genesis when I was younger. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was my first video game :). I own other consoles but don't play as much anymore

...See more This is probably something a lot of us have to contend with but do you ever feel people around you just don't understand what it's like to be you? Most of my life I had very little contact with any others who have ASD. I had one friend growing up who I suspect may have had it due to certain characteristics but never was for sure. I feel like I've gone through my whole life so far and never got that feeling from someone that says "I see you". "I see what you're going through". I had a Pastor at my church who after finding out I had ASD did a whole bunch of research to understand it. He is one of the few people I've ever had that made an effort to understand and empathize with what I went through. He sadly passed away two years ago. My parents did the research they could and did the best they can but never have felt truly understood sometimes by them as well. To know what it's like for your mind to constantly be riddled with thoughts. To understand why certain things don't come easy or certain tasks. Why certain simple tasks that maybe a neurotypical person would get don't come so simply. I apologize if this sounds "ranty". I just never wrote down what I felt until now.

...See more Hi! My name is Brian. It's neat that there's an autism support group here and just wanted to introduce myself. I am 39 years old. I was officially diagnosed with Autism 3 years ago but knew I had it since I was 12. I had teachers in elementary school who told my parents I had what was called at the time "Aspergers". I saw a Psychiatrist a year later for mental health issues but he refused to formally diagnose me. I haven't gotten to talk to many others like myself. Lately I've been struggling with an autoimmune illness and it's been difficult.

...See more Hi! My name is Brian. I am 39 years old. I am new to this thread but it's nice to see a over 35 group here. About a year ago I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's an autoimmune disease. Since then things have just getting worse unfortunately. Some of it is of my own doing and some of it is probably my mental health. I had preexisting mental health issues since I was a teenager along with ASD. It's been very challenging. I keep going back in my head to 2 years ago when things were better. Right now I've been working on finding a Doctor who understands the illness. So far the Doctors I've had haven't been the best.  I wasn't sure if there was anyone else here who struggles with an autoimmune illness. I had heard of Hashimoto's before I got diagnosed but never thought I would have it. I sometimes am still in a bit of denial and anger about it.

...See more Hi! I'm new to the community. It's nice to see the different areas that are here. I've been struggling with health anxiety alot. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's last year and health anxiety has just been a big struggle of mine. I think some of this is mixed in with OCD as well.
