Struggling with Health Issues
Hi! My name is Brian. I am 39 years old. I am new to this thread but it's nice to see a over 35 group here. About a year ago I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's an autoimmune disease. Since then things have just getting worse unfortunately. Some of it is of my own doing and some of it is probably my mental health. I had preexisting mental health issues since I was a teenager along with ASD. It's been very challenging. I keep going back in my head to 2 years ago when things were better. Right now I've been working on finding a Doctor who understands the illness. So far the Doctors I've had haven't been the best.
I wasn't sure if there was anyone else here who struggles with an autoimmune illness. I had heard of Hashimoto's before I got diagnosed but never thought I would have it. I sometimes am still in a bit of denial and anger about it.
@easySail1800 Good to see you sharing about it. This takes courage in itself. Personally, I've felt accepting things how they are gives us the energy to focus 100% on it rather than feeling angry and otherwise. We can't change the situation, so why make ourself feel more negative about it has been my reaction to the trauma/ challenges I've said.
I do hope you are able to find an appropriate doctor who understands your ailment and provides suitable course of treatment. All the best!
@Behopeful7621 Thank you so much! I think you are absolutely right. Acceptance does help to give energy to focus rather than feeling angry. You are right that we can't change the situation. I tend to dwell on the past sometimes and think if I did "X" or "Y" could this have been prevented but it's not helpful.
Thank you so much too for your well wishes! I am hoping I can find a good Doctor who can help get me stabilized. Thank you so much for sharing with me and I wish you all the best as well! :)
You are most welcome. We can't change the past and we all make mistakes. 8 billion people in the planet and everyone has made/ makes mistakes. You are not alone 🙂. What can make you different than many others is choosing to work on the present rather than dwelling on the past. Ensuring you do not repeat those same mistakes in the present. This is a sign of growth and of a positive approach towards life. I hope you can do this
@easySail1800 I understand what you're going through. There's a grief that comes with chronic illness except it's yourself you're mourning... the way you used to be. A good GP and getting the right thyroxine levels will help, but it's a process. I wish you well.

Hello, it seems like you can live with it as a friend. What was your lifestyle before you got Hashimoto's?
@Minimum00 Hi! I would like to live with it like a friend. Before my diagnosis I had a lot more energy and was more active. I would do more things with work, doing errands, etc. Right now I struggle alot of days with energy and sometimes have bad anxiety. I am trying to work on the anxiety aspect but the disease just seems to be adding to it.
@easySail1800, I too have auto immune, and thankfully since meeting my current physician who specialises in epigenetics and functional medicine, I feel better. There are days when I feel I might fall again, but I still manage to find my way around, get up and going.
