My thoughts on meaning in art
Arts & Crafts / by faithfulCoconut848

...See more I just want to somehow start a discussion on meaning. Idk if this is a worthy topic for the arts n’ crafts forum, but it is art related. I suspect this topic would be totally ignored on other forums because it’s about art. I heard someone say a few days ago that meaning is required for creativity to exist, but that is not what I have found. There are many visual artists out there that are very creative yet even go so far as to despise the concept of meaning, and rightfully so. If meaning is what you desire, then you’ll end up never making anything. The world around us is more proficient at stripping meaning away, than providing it. The best art seems to me, to avoid any real meaning. Meaning actually stifles creativity. Consider religious art. It’s the same thing over and over again. Meaning actually renders it meaningless. It’s like a band having to play the same song so many times that they actually forgot what the original meaning was. That’s why when you ask rock stars about the meaning of their songs, they don’t know. So if not meaning, then what? What fuels your creativity?

Help me figure out reality

...See more Ok. So here goes nothing. Hopefully that sentence doesn’t turn out being literal. The big question is how does something come from nothing, but let’s take a huge step back here. What even is something? What even is nothing? These are just words. Something and nothing only seem to exist within context. You know when to take every color of paint in the arts n’ crafts store, and mix them all together you get black. I imagine if you hear all the sounds play at one time it sounds like silence. We as human beings living on this particular planet only have a certain kind of perspective that requires concepts of something and nothing. Things do inhabit the empty spaces in life though. Might I suggest that nothing simply isn’t possible in the grand scheme of things. So something also doesn’t exist, not without the concept of nothing. So how does something come out of nothing? That is ultimately a nonsense question. Something and nothing are the same. The vast empty space, before the universe began. I don’t know where else to take this. Also! When people consume mind altering substances, they want to turn around and say they finally understand it all, that they talked to aliens and such. I can easily tell that’s just chemical reactions in the brain. They various belief systems they how adopted through that whole process is just the product of being in a certain mental state. However what stumps me is, isn’t that also true no matter what. Aren’t we all just experiencing reality through chemicals and electrical signals? So let’s say you’re physically onboard the mothership hanging out with aliens. Ultimately how is that different from the mind altering experience back on earth? Either way you’re just dealing with what goes on inside your head. I think it all goes back to the ultimate fact that true objectivity is impossible to reach since we’re ultimately only able to experience the world through our bodies. Yes I believe we have more than 5 senses. These bodies are the sum total of millions of years of natural selection. Consider the tiger. We see the tiger as being a bright orange, hardly a color that can blend in to its environment in order for it to stalk prey. However the animals it hunts cannot perceive the color orange. To them the tiger is green. We’re still animals on this planet and we can only go as far as our bodies, and mind, can allow. So how can we possibly hope to find the ultimate truth, and ultimate answer? May I suggest that there was never really an ultimate question to begin with. The only reason why I ask the bigs questions in life is because im bored, and I’m lonely. So I have nobody to hang out with and share my life with outside the internet. I know im not the only one that feels this. You still crave aliens? Do cows in a factory farm know about gazelles and buffaloes and cats and dogs and so on and so forth? That’s why we’re lonely! That’s why this sort of thinking is making the rounds right now. The powers that be have won. As we deconstruct reality, we have to realize that we only deconstruct it because the lives we once lived have already been deconstructed. Now we live in our minds and pain is the fuel that drives this quest. I know I do this because maybe there’s something there we’ve missed. Something in the realm of an ancient technology long forgotten. I fear to even to bring up the concept of magic or magick because of all the charlatans out there. This magick is something we can actually experiment with though. See what works, see what doesn’t. Maybe imagination isn’t what we’ve been lead to believe. I wonder if it’s actually possible to change reality through art. Art is what I know and what im good at. Even the word art has been tainted, but I still think it necessary to use that word for the sake of ease. People often overlook the power of images. They really do influence our imagination, even at a base level. I’d like to see what we can accomplish through the arts. Why? Cause I’m bored, im lonely, and I think I actually believe there’s still a bit of fun to be had in the process.

Help me out with Non-Duality

...See more When you say you’re the universe. You’re already starting off on false ground. What you’re doing is you’re taking identity, ego, and just transferring it to fit a universe. Ego is already fake, you can’t really use an already fake thing anyway. I used to be a non-dualist up until I figured that out. I hear non-dualists say that out of all the things in the realm of spirituality that non-dualism is the only thing that’s actually real and can be proven real. I wonder how they got there, really. If you are a non-dualist or interested in the subject then let’s try to get to the bottom of this. I don’t know if we’re really on to something here or I just can’t seem to let go of the “seeking phase” due to emotional reasons.

...See more I ruminate quite a bit. It gets really bad when I’m at the gym. It also gets really bad at night. Like it’s hard for me to get to sleep. I watch videos on how to get it to stop. It’s really difficult for me to just let things go.

What do I have to do?

...See more What do have to do to communicate with others? I literally eat a small breakfast each day and that’s pretty much it until the morning after. I’ve been to the gym for 4 hours each day since last December. I’ve lost 50 something pounds. What else do I have to do to look good enough to talk to? I take 2 hair supplements a day. My bald spot is slowly but surely going away. Is there like some thing that other people have that I don’t that’s invisible to me because either I never developed it or it simply isn’t in my DNA or something? Am I simply not cool enough? What do I have to do to achieve the cool points? I don’t want to break myself trying to do a skateboard trick or whatever. If you can tell me what to do then please tell me. I’m sick of being alone.

...See more What do I have to do to socially interact with others? Is there a secret society or something that everyone is a part of except for me? If so what do I have to do to join? I promise not to tell anyone or do anything that will expose the mysteries and the magicks of the society.

Subconscious School Epiphany

...See more Hi everyone. I don’t know if that’s a good title or not. Today I had this mini epiphany at the gym. I noticed this old guy who was going into the stretching area and another old guy was walking out of it. He was in a hurry and didn’t notice the first guy was trying to get his attention. I genuinely felt bad for him. I didn’t fully understand why until I started thinking about my nonexistent gym buddy circle. I notice some people seem to have no problem being social at the gym. I’ve always assumed everyone was too busy or focused to talk so I never tried to talk to people there. I’ll be honest, I can only recall people talking to me like twice in my whole life at the gym. Once someone was asking if I was done with something and another time when I had really bad leg cramps and an old lady was expressing concern or whatever. However I also started thinking about school. My time in school was pretty awful to be honest. I was bullied quite a bit. It definitely seemed like everyone was against me. It definitely affected my subconscious. I have reoccurring dreams about being back at school. I have those dreams so much that I actually look forward to a legit nightmare. Give me ghosts, monsters, demons anything, but being back at school lol. I think the biggest reason why I’m alone here is because of the energy I’m giving off all the time. Which is a type of avoidant energy I developed to survive school. I wish I knew how to stop it. Im tired of being lonely. It’s not just a gym thing, it’s a life thing. Feel free to share your thoughts.
