Online Therapy: Why It Works

Reasons why online therapy can be even better than traditional in-person therapy
Online therapy

I went straight through all my schooling and was always the youngest in my employment. I always knew I wanted to be a social worker and I eagerly set out to try every type of work that I could. From telling people how to care for their kids in their homes before I even lived on my own much less had children of my own... To visiting people in the areas no one else would go... To good old private practice where you can only hope people can make it next week. I never lacked passion, motivation, or excitement and that's the #1 thing that made me good at what I did, not the degrees and licenses.

BUT mental health clouds those exact things! Passion, motivation, excitement and a bunch more other important feelings. Without these things it is hard to pick up the phone and make the appointment. Even harder to actually have to get out of bed and get dressed and leave the house sometimes! As soon as text messaging actually became 'a thing' I started thinking about  'online therapy' because I would get so many messages from clients at my work phone. Things they wouldn't normally even make the effort to say if it weren't for the ease and safety of that screen. So now online therapy is 'a thing' or you wouldn't be reading this!!

What I've learned as an Online Therapist is that clients feel more free to share things they normally wouldn't because they can... They can be 'here' comfortably. They can remain anonymous. They can SEE what they are saying themselves! They can jot down things as they come without having to remember for next session. They can reread if they need reminders or clarification. The list is endless. There is so much help out there and it's not as hard to get as it used to be. People say they want to lose weight but don't exercise; Save money but don't cut down on spending. We never put enough effort into ourselves because it isn't easy. But guess what, therapy couldn't be easier than this type of forum and Therapists can help you with goals like that even. Give it a try! I truly believe it is worth it because YOU ARE!
