Am I in the wrong?

So I’ve been really stressed with a work decision. Context, I work at a Sephora @ Kohls and the store is looking for a new beauty team lead. I had applied (I have worked there for about 6months now) and I had my interview and it went great, or so I thought. Well I get called into the office today to be told I didn’t get the team lead position ,which is fine I understand, but instead of it being a qualified worker from Sephora (example one of my coworkers), he chose a kohls associate with NO makeup experience at all, no manager training, no Sephora training, NOTHING.

Now I’ve put my whole heart into this job, I’ve had hours and days, MONTHS of training for this job, I’ve attended meeting after meeting, research after research, I helped set up this store (I mean literally help put together the shelves and products).

I wouldn’t be as upset and hurt if it was someone who has experience, and actually wore makeup and new about skincare. (Like I said before, I know some of my co-workers in Sephora applied, if one of them got it I would not be as upset as I am). I’ve had other managers firm around the store tell me “ it’s gotta be you, you’re one of the best,” it’s a surprise to them too!! No one is happy.

My boss then told me that he wants to train me up to become the “next team lead I’f anything happens” but I applied for this position twice now (once when I started and now this time). Then he tells me to “take her under my wing and help her learn). I shouldn’t have to train my future Boss. I at least should get paid for it. Why should I have to train my boss who’s supposed to know more than me.

I know I’m upset. I’m really trying to let it go, but it’s just getting to me. I don’t know if it’s just built up insecurity, but I’m loosing sleep over this, I’m constantly irritated. I’m really trying my best to be happy for her for getting this new job, but some part of me just won’t let go. Am I over reacting? How do I learn to just accept it and be happy for her?

@kennaclaire

It is disappointing when you see experience difference and when others thought you were the obvious choice... but it comes down to it was not their decision. The person  who did interviews and made choice did it for a reason maybe they saw something you have not in the person chosen or maybe there was bias for some reason but  in life this happens and will again in some form.

You are not wrong in feeling like you do.   It is frustrating to have to train or bring up to speed a new person let alone a person who will be the lead.

i do not think you need to be happy for her .....but put your disappointment behind you and move on trying to do what you can to deal with the situation. If this person was a bad choice that will show up quickly and like the hiring person said you would be next IF something comes up.

@kennaclaire the work world, is unfortunately not in our control, it must have been very dissapointing and upsetting for you with all the work you've put in. It seems like other than this reason news, you actually love your job. That doesn't have to change sweetie. Maybe give this new girl a chance, see what happens ❤ and possibly take a few days off, for your mental well being ❤ gives you a giant tiny hug ❤

You're in the right, stand your ground and tell your manager that you shouldn't need to train your future boss and if you do, you should get paid for it. Keep a quote in mind, if they refuse to meet your conditions, do not budge. Leave this place if possible, they clearly don't care about you and your efforts. They're using you
