Hello,so um,what I have to say is extremely hard for me to get out and talk about, like a lot. When I was 17 I um...hit my mom,and went to jail. I was on zoloft at the time, and honestly have zero idea why I did it. It was determined I had a manic episode due to a side effect of that drug which causes violent behavior,I've never been violent before or after that incident. I feel lower than dirt even tho it's been 3 years now,my mother has forgiven me snd i was allowed back home. I cant even describe how sorry i am.I've struggled to obtain a good job because I now have a record, misdemeanor for simple battery. It has destroyed my life completely,I can't get anything above a fast food job which won't pay for rent or a home,no sensible woman wants to date me because of my record. All that I've told have disappeared after I told them, and ofc I waited a bit so they could see the real me. My point being,I'm only 21,my life is ruined, I'll never have a good job, never have a wife or kids,or become a vet. What am I supposed to do?? I'm at point where I've given up all hope,no I'm not harming myself, I'm just hopeless need someone to please for the love of God give me some advice

Hello Rationalcucumber, I read through your post. And let me tell you, that what I thought was that wow this person went through something and is acknowledging it and how it was wrong, also it truly seems like you learned from your experience and are a better person now, I'm so proud of you for that!

I'm sorry that you feel like this record is a hindrance for potential good jobs and future relationships. But, be assured, this time shall too pass. You are only 21, and life may seem a lot at this point, I can relate as I'm 23 and things are going fast paced right now. You want advice, so I'll say that start with volunteering or doing social work to add to your resume and during job interviews if your record comes up then let them know how far you've come and what you learned from your experiences. As for relationships, the right person would come through and love you for who you are!! You seem like a genuine person and it'll show up😊 Explore relationships and don't stress out, the ONE is out there somewhere and in future you'd be looking back to this time when you were skeptical of yourself.

I'm proud of you for thinking this through, I know people who aren't guilty and dont apologize when they do something like this. You are truly nice, kind and genuine and I'm happy you turned out to be like this!! Girls might leave you for what so reasons but a real woman would see the genuine you😊

I'm here if you need a friend or someone to talk to!

You are very young and while you may feel this is overwhelming now but time changes things...... what do you want to do for job/ career? that seems like a small item for your dating prospects to be gone over.... you will find someone that can understand the incident if your MOM who was the person you hit can forgive anyone who can not see past are not the type you should want in the long run.

i do not remember any of any recent jobs that ask any questions unless in a felony category. if happened as a juvenile should not even appear on an adult background check for example

Honestly count your self lucky that you learned a valuable lesson and SEE that one small bad thing that in an instant can make a big difference in your life...... Many who have done far worse are amazingly unaware that small things can change your world.
