I Know What To Do But Why Can't I DO IT!

Hello everyone,

I'm 47. My situation is not the best right now. I'm a recovering compulsive gambler. I currently back with my mother at her house since I was evicted due to being irresponsible with my money. Now, I sit in my room, in the house I grew up in, hating life. I do work and have a pretty decent job, but lately, I haven't cared. I'm backlogged on work and I just don't have the energy to care anymore.

I know I have to change. I buy books about it that I don't read. I watch YouTube videos about confidence and procrastination and everything and I still feel like a loser. Maybe I am. I'm 47 years old, living at home again.

Honestly, I don't know why I came to this site. I'm just tired of being tired. Half of my life is almost over and I really have nothing to show for it. That scares me. I don't know if anyone will read this, but I wish I knew why I can't change. It hurts so much to know I haven't when I could.

@cooliofool

You are not alone ... there are many in similar shoes ....... Many know what they should or could do but find ways to procrastinate...... i myself as i am writing this should be either doing work in yard or applying for a new job but as you see ... not doing it

we all may have different reasons or rationalizations as to why ...... but i will guarantee you i will in a day or two be *** at myself for not doing what i should or missing out on a job as they filled it while i surfed the internet.

motivation IMO needs to be from within......until you reach a spot where the just DO IT voice is louder then the i will try tomorrow ...... several rah rah you can do it suggestions will not sink in

if you are a gambler bet on yourself....

@cooliofool

I'm in the same boat as you. You should go to Gambler's Anonymous meetings. It will change your life for the better. One day at a time.

@cooliofool First of all I can say we are all very proud of you for your recovery! Keep going, better days are ahead!

Recovery from any addiction can be stressful and challenging. It's like moving to another country where you have to restart everything from scratch. Your feelings are valid.

Secondly, it seems like you might be experiencing some emotional distress. Do you think you'd be willing to speak to a therapist?

Therapy is good because it gives you the tools to recognize, manage and transform your emotions. I personally went to therapy before and it's been a life saver.

Also, connecting with Listeners on this site can help, if you ever feel like talking to someone. We, as listeners, are here to support in an empathetic and kind way. We are not here to judge but we are here to lend an ear to whoever needs it.

I hope the best for you!
