What would you do?
If someone offered you a pill and said "You will lose you memory of bad things that happened to you, you will forget about relationships and people that hurt you, and you will get to start a new life somewhere else without those memories" would you take that pill?
@zeetee17
I wouldn't. It's pointless trying to use drugs to forget about something that has happened in the past. The past is the past, it's gone, and you have grown from the experience, and that growth is what is important. Keeping the memory is what is important, because you know that you will not let yourself get hurt again, so NO, don't take the pill
@ThomasX
My thoughts exactly
these have been really interesting answers. thanks for all the responses. I think i would take the pill if it would give me back who I was before the heartache, but a lot of you made a good point of losing the lesson and being drawn into the same situation because I lost the memory and the wisdom
@zeetee17
do you have a pill where you keep the lesson but lose the pain?
Ill take that one please!
@zeetee17 wow, what an interesting question.
On one hand, if I am ready to take that pill, why don't I just let go of the negative feelings and bad memories induced by toxic people in the past and start afresh?
On the second hand, the experience only made me smarter. So, if I take the pill, I will lose the pain but some of my wisdom too. (Sounds a lot like alcohol)
If I take it once, it doesn't guarantee protection from future hurt. To overcome that, I will only need more pills.
And then it turns into a cycle? And if so, where does the cycle end?
I think I will give it a try without the pill. I will take my experiences, remember the pain and set stronger boundaries so that I can protect myself. (and maybe keep the pill as a last resort?)
What would you do?
Nice answer @DonaldDraper
I would learn options to heal in the pain, so that I wouldn't even need to consider taking a pill
@DonaldDraper Wow! Donald, I just gained more respect for you reading your comment. Absolutely beautiful and soooo wise! ♡ Love, Not Cari*
@YourCaringConfidant no words, only 🥰
Yes. I always make the same mistakes. It would help if I forgot after every mistake who I was. And a different place sure why not! It's an ouroboros eating its tail infinite loop.
Memories can sometimes be vile things, but sometimes those very bad memories can also lead to some incredibly beautiful moments in the struggle as well. Memories create reasoning, and to deny those memories is to...by default...deny any form of reasoning as well
If all you experience is only one side of the coin, when will you realise that a coin has 2 sides...if you never experience the bad, how will you know what good is even when you feel it?
It's kinda like experiencing darkness, how will you know the difference if you don't turn off the lights
yes but i know it all could turn out the same. just anything to escape this.
@zeetee17 Please don’t take that pill. It might sound good to you but trust me its a drug.
@zeetee17
I'd be very tempted honestly but no I wouldn't. All those things have played a part in shaping the person I am today
@zeetee17
That's an interesting hypothetical question. Personally, I don't think I would take the pill. While bad memories can be painful, they also help shape who we are and allow us to learn and grow from our experiences. Even the painful ones can have valuable lessons and make us stronger in the long run. Additionally, forgetting people who hurt me might mean missing out on important lessons I needed to learn or relationships I needed to move on from. While the idea of starting fresh somewhere else may sound tempting, ultimately, I think it's important to face our challenges and work through them rather than simply erase them from our minds.
@zeetee17
no i wouldn't take this pill
