36. Relationship of 12 years ended. No kids. Floundering at work due to stress. Flunking classes. In classes due to being a drop out. I run away from love. I have failed at everything so far. I have no social skills. I don't have anyone to call my own. I'm an outcast with no social circle.

I'm 34. No friends, no relationship. The last boyfriend I've had was more than 12 years ago, and by the looks of it, it's seems to be my first and last. I'm currently working part-time as an essential worker (as my position is used to cover vacation time of the permanent staff) and studying part-time for a Diploma. Envying those with friends and husbands, while I live a lonely life with my parents and brother who's 4 years older (just came out from the divorce). Trust issues from past friendships where I was abandoned the moment I reveal my true self to him/her about my depression. I guess the people I've met just don't understand depression, and choose to turn their backs instead because they don't know how to get along with someone with depression. My depression will be a part of who I am for the rest of my life, and if for everyone I'll meet in the future cannot accept the whole package, I'll never be able to have a friend, be in another relationship, let alone have a husband. Someone keeps telling me that the person will show up when I least expect it, as much as I want to believe that, I just don't know if I have the patience to wait for fate to come around~

A lot of us in our 30s are still trying to figure life out so you’re not alone! It really sucks that society makes us believe that we need to do certain things (graduate, find a career, get married, have kids, buy a house, etc) by a certain age. In reality, it’s never too late to accomplish your goals no matter what age! Keep working towards your goals and dreams and don’t give up!

@resourcefulOwl7361 - agree with Owl how society "make us believe" (ahem...FORCE...cough...force us to believe) a lotta stuff but we mustnt allow society to cause us to fall in depression. keep on trucking, everyone <3

Right?! A lot of us don’t have the resources or support to “accomplish” all the things society says we should do and then we feel bad for not living up to those standards when sometimes others were just given a head start. I try to remind myself of the things I have accomplished and that even little victories are worth celebrating and that it’s ok to be a work in progress.

Use this time to love yourself, that's the greatest gift you can give to you. Everything else will fall in place. Don't be too hard on yourself and stop comparing yourself to others. Our journey's are all different and you are not a failure, you are doing the best you can. You've done the right thing by surrounding yourself around people that can relate and are here to offer support and encouragement...🙌

I can definitely relate to this. I’m 36 and very lonely and it’s getting to be too much. Feels like it’ll be forever, and getting worse. I’ve had a lot of death in my family recently, my own medical issues, recent splits with some of my closest family and friends, pile on this isolation we’re stuck in and I’m just getting more depressed. Thing is I don’t even know what to do, I’ve never even had a first kiss yet. I’d always figured I’d have a family but it feels so out of reach now, but it’s all I can think about. It’s such a fundamental part of humanity that love and relationships are everywhere I look. Every movie, song, show, or just being in public, all reminders of being so messed up that if I found that special lady, I’m terrified I won’t know what I’m doing and ruin it. I feel so stuck in place and I’m digging deeper.

I am 36 also. I have a relationship that I think is suffering because of my depression. I have 3 teenagers I feel I could do more for if I wasn't so depressed. I don't have social skills either. I just called about 7+ phone numbers to try to find a local support group and no luck. I feel you. You are not alone. Message me if you want to talk.

Sounds like 36 is the new "I'm dying". I'm also 36. I went through a stent of sex addiction because I just wanted the connection. Now I have a boyfriend and hardly ever want sex, so my relationship suffers from that too. It's like all or nothing. My relationships definitely suffer from my depression. I have a 7 year old I feel like I'm not properly caring for because I can barely function for myself. He's often late to school, has dirty clothes, messy hair, getting really behind in school because I don't do homework with him a lot of the time. I sleep way too much. A couple years ago I also started drinking more heavily, drove my car and crashed, got a DUI, messed up my entire life and career I worked so hard for. Now I'm sober and have no friends, no life, don't get out of the house, have no support, and I don't know what I'm supposed to do. I just want to give up most of the time. The only thing keeping me from giving up my life to be a gypsy is the fact I have to provide for my son, even though I can't do that very well.
