Autumn Change

Hallo everyone, I like to wish you a happy Monday laugh Lets start this week with focussing on the

Meteorological season autumn

The meteorological autumn began/fall began on 01 September and ends on 30 November.

Come autumn, when the sun weakens and days grow shorter. Most green leaves turn into beautiful colours like red, yellow or purple just to mention a few because the amount of chlorophyll in leaves diminishes, allowing the other pigments in the leaves to show through.

But not only nature changes.

A belgian study found that, in the summer, the brain performs well with attention-centered tasks, but in the fall, it takes on a different kind of efficiency. Your memory actually becomes sharper, since the part of your brain that's responsible for remembering things is firing off at a higher rate. You may even be able to concentrate better and be more productive overall. What is your experience with this. do you feel your memory is more active when outside in these days and do you feel like sharing some of your experiences?

I remember autumn from my country of birth, talking walks in the forest - the forest floor was paved with red, yellow and brown leaves. It was like calmness was settling in.

What about you?

I don't think I've heard o meteorological seasons before, I have only used what appears to be defined as astronomical ones, or just referring to the season by what the weather appears to be (like winter in May when there's a big dump of snow).

The weather certain can affect my concentration, memory, etc. I think the biggest effects are in relation to triggers of physical conditions though, so the more generalized stuff wouldn't be seen as well. Things like brain fog can really affect memory and concentration big time.

This autumn, using the dates you have given has been pretty rough, too much snow this early on. This week looks better, I'm hoping it turns out to be a good week!

@AffyAvo

Hi Affy, thanks for checking in. Astronomical and meteorological autumn seem just be 2 different ways of applied measurement, September 21 or September 1. I did not know either until I read an article about it.

Brain fog and triggers have truly a big impact on memory and concentration. I know that when I "encounter" a big trigger my brain is not that much responsive anymore what concerns processing of data.

Wish you a nice week.

@amiablePeace77 cold weather stimulates my presence and attentiveness. Sometimes I feel like I am more alive with cold weather. It is like quite a change from summer when things are more relaxed.

@soulsings

I can relate to that Soul, I find that I can think faster when it's cooler, guess it has also something to do with the fact that the body is drained easier in very hot temperatures, leaving it more tired which affects the processing of information.

@amiablePeace77 yes I had not thought of that that way but it makes sense.

I grew up where there were no seasons to speak of, now live where there ARE seasons. My own favorite is autumn, when the leaves turn pretty colors, the weather turns cool but not cold, and it heralds my "test" batch of truffles. It may well be that my brain (what little is left of it) works better, I can't really say one way or the other. I am doing a lot more exercise, started in August, and that is helping me think better.

@Offmytrack Did you find that more drastic weather changes took a while to get used to after moving from a place that didn't have seasons?

@AffyAvo

Not at all. I found them a welcome change. The weather patterns where I live now are not extreme, usually. It rains in the winter, gets hot in the summer.

@Offmytrack I wish the winters here didn't get so cold! For autumn and spring it's difficult to know what to expect, it can be fairly cold or quite warm. We do get pretty fast temperature drops and increases.

@Offmytrack

Exercise is helping in so many ways, it also helps with cognitive and executive function of the brain, so we can improve processing of information we receive and also our memory, just to mention a few. I too exercise more (outside) when it's getting cooler.

one of my cousins took me for a ride in the 'hills', on one-lane dirt roads, and i remember clearly the time when another cousin took me on the same ride, oh, 20 yrs ago~! i have significant memory impairment, so this was a big deal to me,, more than just getting to go on a wonderful ride~ smiley heart

Gusty, this sounds amazing - I believe lots of people without memory impairment might have problems to remember things from 20 years ago.

I havent noticed whether my mind is better at certain times of the year. Autumn does bring good memories of camping trips, leaves between wax paper, pumpkin pie and hot chocolate.

@Zengrl I notice I am more alert in cool crisp weather than in sweltering humid summer heat but not sure how the change of the seasons affects me.

@Zengrl

Zengrl, camping trips are awesome - experiencing nature at its best.

I did not notice neither that my mind changes a lot but concentration is better when cooler (to me)

There is a noticable elevation in my sense of well being, in part because it is finally cool enough to go for long hikes and sit outside for my morning coffee. It is also time for me to change out seasonal clothes and freshly launder linens giving me a sense of freshness at home.
