Things People Say that Make Us Feel Older
My daughter told me that now people don't put their age on application forms (she is looking for a new job)
Why is that? If you want someone young surely that is ok to say?
My son said "Don't worry mum I will do that windows/adobe/Netflix/Phone update for you!"
Why is that? Its not that complicated, is it?
The Cashier in the supermarket said don't worry I will carry that to your car!
Why is that? I used to be left to carry things myself, have they grown heavier?
What about you? Are you keeping up?

Great post!
I need to think about this one, back in a bit!
I only wish someone would say 'I'll cook that dinner for you'
Lucy2
@lucy2
Maybe not 'I'll cook that dinner for you" but I have had "Mum why do your dinners always taste better than mine even when I use your recipe!" hee hee hee . . . .
@MistyMagic
Well, you know they are just so crafty aren't they?
When I try to wangle an invite to dinner, I'm always told Mum's dinner is best! when they're perfectly capable of cooking a great meal!
Some family members assume we are not capable of this and that because of our age but isn't the 50's and 60's the new 40's?
we can do anything!

This strikes me as unusually offensive stereotyping for 7 Cups
@MistyMagic
@RarelyCharlie
Just to clarify . . . This was my post. . .. . My idea. . . . . My experience as someone over 50! . . . .
How can you say that it is stereotyping by 7 Cups?
Unless of course you you were commenting on 7Cups actually providing somewhere that is specifically for over 50's?
The section is called "Challenges We Face" it is in the category "The SecondHalf" so I posted about the challenges I have had to face and to be frank You are not helping!
Added : This Section is headed Older Adults - 50+ Support!

I find that sometimes we perceive offered help as a statement "you cannot do it so i will do it for you" but people often just want to be nice and helping. But I also found out that with certain things they were right, I cannot so I need help. Usually I prefer to solve my practical problems on my own to a great extend because it allows me to learn whilst looking for an answer, but not always. Also I realized that on days my self-esteem is high I react different if e.g. my hubby offers help. Another thing for me is too, I understand from sth written what I want to understand, this might not necessarily be what is said
.
@amiablePeace77
Oh yes! Quite! it is strange though when for months, years even , things roll along without any reference to our age then suddenly wham! we are old!? How does that happen?
Age creeps up, whilst the spirit and soul may be still very young and active the mind and body may show imperceptive signs of wear and tear!
@MistyMagic
True Magic, that's whysome time ago I decided to be kinder to my body because otherwise I get a bad payback
@MistyMagic
Hahahah, amazing thread!!

I think of myself as up-to-date and on top of things, so when I am working through something that is not intuitive on the phone and my kid grabs it and says "just let me do it for you" - that is when I feel old. But I also feel good because it gets done without the struggle!
I was at a party recently and a younger lady said to me, in front of many other guest, "dude! your old!!!" I smiled and replied, "we will all be there sooner than you think". She actually smiled, and we had good conversation after that. :~)
@byrddog
That's good that everything work out and you got to talk to each other more! 😊😊😊!

Great Thread Post!! 😊😊😊!
I never had anyone say let me do that for you you are old. If anyone ever said that to me. I would say that I can still do that. The is just me. Because when I was growing up I was severely disabled. And people would said you can't do that. Let me do that for you. I hated that when people did that. You don't know what I can or can't do. Because you won't let me do anything. When I got a little bit older when I found my voice I started speaking up and saying that I can do that for myself. 😀😀😀😀!!
