When do we reach Adulthood?
Morning 50+ Community!
I hope you are all having an amazing week and a superb Friday! I recently turned 21 and had the most perfect birthday I could wish for, although I don't feel like I've reached adulthood just yet. There are many simple things I haven't mastered and I still have lots of new thins to learn and try out! 💛
My parents got married, bought a house and started building a family from 23, the fact that I'm a long way from this worries me. I understand there is no time frame and I can take life at my own pace although when do I reach the point where I'm ready to jump in and start living an adult life.
When did you start to feel like an adult?
Who has been the biggest influence of your life?
What is the best advice that someone has given you?
I cannot wait to hear all your amazing answers and to catch up with you soon. Please never forget how truly amazing each of you are, stay strong, you got this!
💛💛
@LlamaLizz. This is an interesting question.
Feeling like an adult came for me in different stages. I was very financially responsible and able to provide for myself since I was 17. But in all other areas such as emotionally, psychologically, and for relationships I have been immature and took a long time to feel like an adult. For relationships I didn’t feel adult like until my 40’s and emotionally my 50’s!
My partner has been a big influence in my life. He shares many good ideas with me. Coming here to 7cups has also been a positive influence for me.
This came through an observation. When someone criticized me I would often think “what’s wrong with me?”. I noticed people criticize my partner and he would say, What’s wrong with that person? Who are they to say that to me?”
By asking these questions it sounds to me like you are going in the right direction.🌻

Aw thank you so much Branch for sharing with us these amazing answers. You have such a positive support nature, I really appreciate all the time you put into 7 cups and admire your dedication. Your partner is totally right, I’m so glad you have someone caring in your life. 😊
@LlamaLizz good questions
feeling like an adult is IMO a very different for many.... some are older but act like children.
do not compare your world with others like ...by this age or that age someone did this or that ... in reality no one but you is keeping a scoreboard and if they are that is their issue. many who look like they have it together are just as unsure and confused about their next move.
influences on my life have changed through time depending on what phase or item i was going through not one person.
there are many pieces of advice but what works for me is treating every person and opportunity as a lesson in life.
@toughTiger6481
Thank you so much for such an insightful answer, you are totally right! No one but you is keeping track. Treating every person and opportunity as a lesson in life is great too! Keep being phenomenal.
@LlamaLizz this is what scared me.
@FurryEmpath
Don't worry Empath, we can do this together! We got this! 💛💛💛
@LlamaLizz
Great post and very interesting question LlamaLizz!
When did you start to feel like an adult? I was independent since about the age of 17 when I left home for education in a different city. I truly felt like an adult only much much later when I moved into a different country and was all on my own apart from my husband.
Who has been the biggest influence of your life? I never had a role model but what I learned here at 7cups did definitively influence my life and in a positive way.
What is the best advice that someone has given you? "Don't get stuck, move on"
@LlamaLizz
Hi, I think I started feeling like an adult when I finally found a stable job. Earning money, paying for bills and all. I have to think of adult things now. I'm 25 by the way. Saving for the future when before you just get allowances from your parents.
I pay for my coffee and shopping obsession now hahaha.
@Jewelmoon17
Having some savings available can come in very handy, good idea!
