When you are a year older, how do you feel?

How many of us don't celebrate birthdays anymore because they've become depressing?

Do you still find your birthday a happy day, or at least a tolerable one? Why or why not?

@SunShineAlwaysGrateful

I am also 57, i don't celebrate my birthday anymore than i celebrate waking up each day. Surviving is not the same as living.

@slowdecline48. Although I’m not particularly happy about getting older I eat some foods like cake and ice cream on my birthday. I gave those things up the rest of the year. So it gives me something to look forward to on my partners and my birthday 🍨 .

@slowdecline48

I feel it depends on how the last year went.

I feel happy when looking back I see that a good year has passed.

I feel bad if the contrary is true.

I project too much from the recent past to the future.

So a bad year makes me pessimistic, and vice versa.

While there are some things to grieve as we grow older (from the superficial- taut skin!- to the profound- the loss of loved ones) there are amazing gifts in the passing of years! I was an anxious mess in my twenties, and I’ve worked my tail off to take better care of my mental health. I’ve leaned skills for being in a happy marriage. I’ve learned the importance of boundaries. And having had loved ones die young, I refuse to complain about aging. Each year is a gift that we were never guaranteed. Remembering that helps stave away self pity!

@slowdecline48 Tolerable. It's fun and I get to spend the day with my friends but it's just always another birthday as a girl. (which I'm not, I'm trans male.)

Hi, yes I still do. Age for me is just a number. I still feel young and proud of my age.

Birthdays for me is the best holiday other than Christmas and New Year. Cause it's a time that I want all the special people in my life to be with me. My family, my best friends. I look forward to it each day. :)

I’m not sure how I feel. Like I’m not too excited or anything. It’s just a normal day.

@slowdecline48 hey guys , I hope all is well. I still find my birthday enjoyable. I am in my early twenties. I used to get sad when I left the success of it in other people hands. However , I learned to celebrate me and it’s okay if some don’t.
