@SunShineAlwaysGrateful  How does kindness influence your interactions with those around you? 

It makes a big difference with how things are with my significant other.

I've probably told this story many times, but I after I was rescued, and recovering in hospital. There was this one nurse in particular, who would sit with me for hours. Keeping me calm, telling me stories, trying to explain what's going on. She once said she always wanted a daughter named Lola. I  Didn't have a name, so I chose lola as my name ❤

Kin dness is something I give everyone because that is how I would want back those I interact with to show me back kindness. I am also kind to those who may not like it it was a way of being brought up be kind to those who are not kind in ways of showing you still care about them.

Kindness is indeed an important part of being human. It is so important & valuable that it should not be wasted on the wrong people. Yes, it can be wasted & the wrong people do exist...far too many of them on this planet, in fact.

Anyone who believes that kindness is never wasted (I've heard it said, in those exact words) has obviously never been taken advantage of. Once you've been burned a few times then unless you're too dense to learn from experience, you will realize that with kindness, as with other valuable things & actions, it does not pay to cast pearls before swine.

Kindly deeds have been done for me, every once in a while. It's always nice when that happens. Before the spread of U.ber & Ly.ft, on two occasions I was waiting for the bus in the late evening when a stranger pulled up at the bus stop & offered me a ride home. Normally I would've been wary, but as a grown man who doesn't dress expensively & caught good vibes in both cases, I took the ride. It's always nice when you encounter a decent person.

I try to be decent myself, though I do not claim to always succeed. [CW: slightly adult subject matter] One time, a woman I had just met got thrown out of her apartment by her sister (who was clearly abusive); she wound up staying with me for a few weeks. I eventually had to kick her to the curb because she kept trying to get me involved in all her problems--she certainly had a few!--but prior to that, her stay with me was mostly okay. I had two rules: 1) don't steal/mess with my stuff, & 2) you sleep in the living room.

From what she told me of her life, she'd been on the road before. I was apparently one of the few men (if not the only man) who did not try to get in her pants or make sXual service a condition of her staying under their roof. When I laid down to sleep it was always in my bedroom, & I never invited her there. There was no way I would...as she was homeless & I was not, the imbalance of power was too one-sided for that.

Dunno how much that qualifies as "kindness", but it was definitely a case where I stuck to my moral boundary.
