Happy Monday to everyone in the 50+ community. I hope you all enjoyed your weekend and you are all doing well laugh

Cry it out surprise

Before you can let go of a negative situation, you have to feel it fully sad and crying can be a soothing way to purge sad feelings and actually make yourself feel better. Did you know that studies have shown that tears actually rid the body of chemicals that raise cortisol, the stress hormone?

enlightened How do you deal with emotional pain? What helps you best?

Well, I used to be a huge crier. Crying helps a lot. But lately my anxiety has gotten so much in the way of it that I'm finding it hard to cry, or I'm crying at weird times. Like I was watching this movie over the weekend and it was something I'd seen a million times, wasn't really that kind of movie for crying, but I found myself gushing.

Maybe because of all the lockdown and everyone being together for so many months at home, I haven't had any alone time to cry to myself and freshen my spirits up. :)

@thoughtfulmomma

It must be hard to surpress your crying whilst your inside is hurting so much, hugs. I hope you will find a way to release your pain heart

enlightened How do you deal with emotional pain? What helps you best? I tend to hide it inside of myself. I know it is not real, and what helps me best is my fiance' holding me.

@DinaElwy

DinaElwy, I can relate, that was my to-go routine as a teen and young person but it never made the pain go away, just lessen it for a while, how about you?

I don't cry, I feel everything but that, My body does not like to let go. I find just cuddling with my cat or going for a walk in the woods helps sooth me.

@amiablePeace77, I honestly don't know how to deal with emotional pain.

I cried when I was young.

I can't remember the last time I cried, like really cried. I get kind of choked up sometimes and will shed maybe a tear or two. That's about it.

Sleeping had always been an escape. Walking helps also.

I find that I don't cry very much. Sometimes exercise is good. Better than other maladaptive strategies I won't mention here.

@amiablePeace77. I am a crier. Sometimes it helps, other times not so much. Sometimes I cry for long periods

@jr50

It must be awful crying for so long and just feeling the same pain as before, hugs.

Crying can help a lot to restore emotional balance and dull the pain but sometimes it's just not enough, the root of the pain wants to be addressed to. Do you find yourself crying often for the same reasons?
