What have you learned from some of your mistakes and missteps and how did they help you in self-improvement?
Most of my mistakes are because I rushed to speak or act without thinking about how my words/actions would be perceived. This has helkped me learn how to apologize: admit my error, acknowledge the damage I caused, be sincerely sorry, and pledge to now make that error again (even if just to myself).
@Katbtrying552 you sound like you approached this very professionally.
@soulsings
Thank you but I have a long way to go.
Just yesterday I was very sharp with someone in a class about bringing in a water bottle to drink from because to drink, she would have to lower/remove her face mask which pretty much defeats the purpose of wearing a mask (class is 4 people plus teacher, chairs are 6-8 feet apart, doors/windows are open despite the cold, and everyone is required to wear a facemask). She was taken aback and went to wash up and the teacher said I was too harsh. I defended myself, which was dumb and wrong, but later apologized to the person and explained that it's my issue, not hers.
The worst part is that she's been downplaying the serisouness of Covid 19 and all thru class kept saying how she is "over it" and wants to go back to normal. Well, yeah, we all do but it won't happen until everyone is vaccinated, immune, or dead.
This class is the closest I get to anyone. I live alone so no one is in my "bubble" altho there a few people whose bubbles are close to mine; people I meet up with at parks to walk our dogs, mostly.
I am so infuriated by those who will not take this pandemic seriously and seem to deliberately disrespect those of us who are trying very hard to avoid being exposed while we wait to get the vaccine. The pandemic has been the cause and source of much of my anxiety this past year and I am struggling to find my normal, amiable self again.
@Katbtrying552 I feel the pain and frustration going out into public and seeing people flaunting wearing masks. Fortunately people are required to wear masks in public enclosed places.
As far as water goes, are there breaks between classes where people can go out of class to drink water or eat snacks? That seems like a reasonable solution, but the attitude of that person wanting to get back to normal could defeat that reasoning. What about taking this example to faculty meetings or your boss and ask what other ways you could have solved the problem.
It is not just an anger issue, it is also about personal safety. I think you have some valid concerns, although there may be better ways to implement them.
From my missteps and mistakes I have learnt that I am prone to them as my stepping stones to improvement. I have learnt so many skills in life from the mistakes I made and it gives me humility.
I can't believe it's Friday. I miss chatting with the over 50 group so very much but i understand that I need to complete a few more 7 cups tasks first and then I'll be able to join in more conversations. I'm looking forward to that day and I feel hopeful about reaching that goal!
