I must say that I do not agree in what Alexander Pope is writing. I shall write a little bit from my own life (that is what we do here at 7Cup without feeling being egoistic).
I try to thank Jesus for what I still can do - walk in my flat, watch TV, clean my flat, read a little bit, watering my flowers, that I still have a clear mind (I'm 68 years old having a severe sickness called ME/CFS - lack of energy).
But from I was 50 I lost: Going outside, travel, do the shopping of groceries myself, being with friends.
I know life has different pages/chapters. But as the sentence you quoted sais: " Feeling blessed for loosing very much (expecting nothing)" - "for he skall never be disappointed". - I have done a lot of grieving, a lot of crying in loosing so very many things.

Thank you. I stayed away from this site for 1 year. I got hurted. When I get hurted I fly, don't know what else to do. Maybe I'll get a thicker skin some day (or learn to coop in another way).

3 things reminded me of you this morning; purple flower - a child made it for me, purple leaf at my pyjamas and a purple banner at the cup I had my morning-coffee in.

Thank you friend for answering. Well - I think I just "run" if I get hurted and try to let time heal. I also tell Jesus or try to tell a friend by mail. If you read what I wrote to "Uber..." above it may also been seen that my illness 100% isolates me in my home. Enough complaining! 3 more things reminded me of you today: I still have a Christmascard at my desk, showing the 3 wise men. They are all in kafkas (long dresses). One of them is purple. And then I have a fine card at my wall with angels, they all have purple dresses. At noon I eat icecream with coffee. I thought I would choose a small cup. Well, it is purple within, green outside and has a purple plate!

@Helgafy, I remember you saying that you lived in that part of the world. It must be beautiful there.
I live in the USA in a state where I don't want to live. I'm reluctant to say which state here. I would tell you if our messages were private. But, since anyone can read this, I don't want to insult anyone. Some people are very proud of where they live.
I had to move here because the family I was living with moved here. I didn't have a job and was very poor, so I didin't have a choice. My only other option was to live in my small car.
Anyway, so I live in a state with lots of huge bugs, and terrible weather. And the food is very expensive here. I work two jobs now.

@Helgafy, I stop at insulting someone about where I and they live because I don't want them to say nasty things to me. I cannot use any negativity in my life.
I pray that God gives you strength to walk outside of your flat, too. Do you have someone to help you with things you need outside of your apartment? I hope you do.

It is entirely possible that I have or do sometimes expect too much. On the other hand, sometimes people rise to that expectation, both as a compliment and as an incentive. Sometimes I haven’t been able to tell when it is problematic for me. Sometimes I have. The difference is in knowing when it that expectation hurts you or someone else, and when it is worthwhile.

By lowering my expectations and accepting what I get I am less stressed and frustrated. It really helps me to stay calm.

I try not to have high expectations, but I can't help but hope that people will be more considerate, understanding and caring than they are. One of the main things that I tried to get across when I reached out to people for support was that I'd spent my life being isolated and lonely. I was hoping they would try to include me in their social lives, but it didn't work. No one wants me around.
@WharfRat sorry you feel you are not wanted in real life. It is not easy to break into the preestablished groups people have. (cliques)
What I find is that 7cups fills a part of the social needs. By not expecting a lot in real life, I am less frustrated.

Do you have high expectations towards others that impact your relationships? I have learned that putting expectations on others can be very disappointing. So now if I don't expect then I am not let down nor does it affect our relationship.This has been new for me.

Hello, hope everyone is doing well, Today I got to do some fun stuff. My daughter and I just took a car ride and went to dinner. I took my dog Max to get his nails cut and since he was so good, I took him to the Dairy Queen and got him a hamburger and a doggy scoop of ice cream. I bet you can tell he is spoiled rotten.
I also did some self-care.
