World Alzheimer's Day is observed every Sept. 21 and is a global effort to raise awareness and challenge the stigma around Alzheimer's disease and other dementia. More than 55 million people across the world are affected by this terrible disease.

My Uncle has Alzheimer's and it's heartbreaking.
It's take away a little more of hum everyday before our eyes.
The not recognizing you cuts deep.
He feels frustrated at losing control .
His voice
Someone to advocate.
He's not simply a number to us or an illness, hes a father, an uncle, a brother, a grandad and he's very much loved 💜

I would say compassion is the most important way to be toward those with Alzheimer's or any form of dementia. It's a very heartbreaking disease for both those suffering from it as well as their caretakers.
I'm currently the primary caretaker for my dad who has dementia and my mom passed from it 10 years ago. I wouldn't wish this diseases on anyone and don't understand why there is a stigma connected to it as it's not something we know how to prevent or cure.

I too wish people would not be judgmental toward those who suffer from this terrible illness but rather understand that it can happen and that there is always a possibility they would be affected too. Gladly there is a lot of research and some progress on this topic.

@amiablePeace77. Hi I am going through this with my partner of many years. He has both Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia. I am in a support group online and have attended an in person group too. The biggest complaint I have heard is the lack of help for families going through this. (It is a 24hour/7day a week job for caregivers). More support is definitely needed.

stigma is the least of concern. A cure or prevention, at very least medication to slow the disease effectively is important.
couple weeks ago I watched my nan take her last breath thanks to this disease. Already robbed of dignity and human function we all / well most take for granted, passing without the ability to communicate pain or awareness.
you could amplify the stigma if the compromise was advances in treating this horrific disease, in my opinion.
would love to know about the stigma as it avoids awareness.
