What has become so evident in society today is all the broken marriages/ relationships that has caused so many of the older generation to be forgotten. Many live alone (me too), and should there be an accident at home or a health condition emergency, there may not be anyone to check on them.
Oh, and yes to this also.......why are there not enough support groups, older singles groups, dinner/bingo type events offered more often for people that have been displaced in society due to divorces and breakups.
I'm hoping in a few years when I reach retirement and I can help check on people and visit those who don't have family that is nearby to visit with them.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us! I also think it can be pretty scary to live alone and not have anyone to call if something emergencies happen. Fortunately, there are groups and services like daily check-in programs, volunteer help, and apps you can sign up for. I like the idea that you want to look after people around you who might not have anyone. Maybe you could even start a local support group if there isn’t one already!

Thanks for the idea. But with my current work schedule it is nearly impossible. I spend 4-5 nights a week away from home. Eleven years of this is plenty enough at my age.
But I am finally making the big move. I'll be selling my house in the next two months and moving south...... to the land of the aging. There should be plenty of opportunities (hopefully) for interactions with people in the same state of life that I am. Praying it all goes smoothly.

I know that what I was planning is probably what a lot of senior people choose (Florida). In my current job of 11 years I have traveled and stayed in all the lower 48 states! I'm well aware of how hot the southern states can be, but I think after driving through the mountains in the winter and spending many days through the negative zero temps I am ready for the change.
Looking very much forward to beginning a calmer pace of life!
@warmheartedAvocado7047. Yes I live in South Florida. Where I live there are a few senior community centers that offer classes and meetings. I know someone who lives in a senior community in Central Florida. She told me that they offer activities where she lives. She isn’t interested in a relationship but she tells me that there are men who are interested. Yes it is hot here and we get hurricanes sometimes. Good luck with your search!

It's very difficult to feel good when your home doesn't feel cozy or comfortable.
Im so sorry I went on a brain thing there . But yes I agree . In my line of work . I see so many elderly alone, disabled , and not one person checks in with them,, they dont invite them places, they just pretend they dont exist , then that individual makes bad decisions due to scammers because they dont have someone saying you may not want to do that .. its just heartbreaking to watch the absolute neglect at the very least these people deal with ..sometimes im the only person they see each week ..

I hope things will change in the future and there will be more support for the elderly in the communities, the communities they helped to build!
I agree its so necessary I keep saying without them we wouldnt be here so they need taken care of .

To me, streetlights are not an option but a must for safety! I hope they will be installed very soon! It can help to have a torch if you have to walk somewhere at night.
