Sayings you were taught . . .
I was always taught "be kind to those you meet on the way up as you will meet them on the way down too!"
And
"If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all!"
And
Always wear a vest!
What about you, those oldies but goodies?
@DanaMH @Soulsings
One thing was if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.
You get what you get
And you don't get upset
:p
@Starchime
love it! got any more?
@MistyMagic
Haha, I learned that one doing childcare.
One I learned from childhood is "people who swear are lacking in vocabulary," but I curse like a sailor so...
@Starchime,
Don't feel too bad. My husband says I don't curse like a Sailor, I embarras them. I believe cursing puts us in a bad light, however, I have an excellent vocabulary and have been told that people who curse often are usually very intelligent. 😁
@MistyMagic
Hi there, I was taught :
"If you want something you got to work for it", true for the most part
"You can do anything if you want", not true, I can try but I have not know when to stop - acceptance, respecting my limits
@amiablePeace77
well if one is young then its true ?
@MistyMagic
I believe it refers to all ages, we simply cannot always do things, even if we want.
@amiablePeace77
Yes the classic you can do anything you want bugs me too
@MistyMagic
Always wear clean underwear in case you get run over, honest!

@lucy2
Me too!!
Well when I was little I read those Help Me Be Good books , so I have a lot of those sayings , but too many to put here.
Does Hakuna Matata count as a saying ?
Because that would be my favorite.
@TheAnxiousLioness
Fits with your name too!
@Starchime
That's where part of my username came from.
Too bad I have too many worries instead of no worries.
@TheAnxiousLioness
Agreed!
@TheAnxiousLioness
what a wonderful phrase
As a teenager was always told, As long as you live under my roof youll abide by my rules. Caught myself saying the same thing the other day😮
Just a few days ago, I caught myself actually saying, "Well it's different with the kids nowadays..." And I instantly thought to myself, "I truly have become my grandmother, when did this happen??"...
I have some that are funny now but not as a child
"I brought you in this world and I will take you out"
"People in hell want ice water, you dont see me running down and giving it to them"
"If your friend jumps off a bridge are you going to do it to"
"I feel like a penny waiting for change"
"Money doesnt grow on trees"
@NancySV1 I was taught to treat people the way I hope to be treated. And 2nd.. always do your best to put yourself in others shoes.
