Memories of Childhood

Reflecting on childhood, such as a favorite toy or a memorable vacation, offers valuable insights. Memory shapes our current behavior, and childhood memories differ from those of later years.
Building on this, childhood memories shape our thinking and influence how we learn, respond, and develop. Revisiting these memories often helps us understand past experiences or recall positive moments from our early years.
Many of us do not remember things  we did before we were 3 years old. We have some memories of when we were 6 to 8 years old. This is a learning curve that we all go through. If we experienced a troubled childhood, we will block the bad times and remember the good times.
Memories we forget are due to cognitive schemas. Schemas change drastically around the age of 6, when we are socializing more with friends and family,or  our language changes because we are learning more words and completing sentences.
When we began attending  school, we learned how to interact with our teachers and peers. We begin to read and write, do math equations, and the history of our past.  We are asked questions in our academic years, where we are talking in full sentences and learning at a young age.
In our teenage years, we began to learn what being a young adult would be like. When we become adults, we will attend college to learn a trade that we learn in a future job.  Memories can come in different ways.  We can remember how to do something needed in our personal or professional life.
The types of childhood memories can be about who we become as adults. We begin to shape how we want to be seen in our lives. This is where we shape our personalities, our morals, and our beliefs.  This shapes who we are becoming.
Our emotions play a crucial role in remembering our childhood. Emotions are tied to positive or negative things we have had.  A traumatic experience is something we sometimes do not want to remember. This was  because it was a painful time we experienced.
Exploring childhood memories reveals how we shape our experiences and influence our well-being.

Pleasant memories:

Long evenings playing out with friends.

Going to the carnival.

Cinema trips.

Laughter.

No worries.

Beach trips.

Ice cream.

I didn't like school, I was severely bullied.

Left out.

Beaten violently for many years.

I turned inwards.

Learnt to become invisible.

Hid my tears.

But what helped me heal was learning later on, I meant something to the right people and I deserved to be happy, it took work, and time but I got there and I never gave the bullies a second thought!

Sorry you were bullied  growing up, but no worries you won't be here, just bullied with kindness and love 💞

What are some pleasant memories of your childhood?

Growing up in the late 60's, 70's was much different. My parents never worried about being kidnapped out there. Playing late in the near by park, told to come home when the street lights came on.

Dad would drive along the lakeshore until he found a spot to pull over and we would have family picknick.

Big family gatherings in the backyard, BBQ, everyone seemed happy then.

How did you learn from a troubled childhood?

TW

Learn who are your friends and who were not. being bu**ied by a lot of people around me is what made me that way I am today, not very open but very guarded and introverted.

You grew up like me, when the streets lights lightly came on meant boogy your butt home fast.

What are some pleasant memories of your childhood? How did you learn from a troubled childhood?

Eating ice cream with my grandma, going for a swim and playing in the garden was very nice. I learned that we can reparent ourselves.

What are some pleasant memories of your childhood?  going places with my mother

How did you learn from a troubled childhood?  I learned that many of the things I did were not my fault and no one helped me.

What are some pleasant memories of your childhood?

Spending Christmas in Florida some years in the 1960s (I live in northeast Illinois); climbing trees and climbing on the corn crib

How did you learn from a troubled childhood?

I don't understand this question.

Pleasant memories: camps, activities, our cats, going camping, fairs, blasting music and reading books from the library, summer adventures with grandparents.

Learnings from a troubled childhood: compassion, acceptance of differences, resilience, that dr ama do provide escape, whether they come true or not.
