Being kind to yourself

When we are kind to ourselves, we are practicing self-compassion. This is when we show kindness, warmth, care, and understanding to everyone we interact with. To be kind to others, we must first be kind to ourselves.

There are 3 components:

self-kindness: being gentle to yourself rather than judgemental.

acknowledging common humanity: recognizing from our mistakes as part of experiences.

mindfulness: seeing our negative thoughts and making postive adjustments to our life.

Key ways to being kind to yourself:

change your self-talk: treating ourselves the same way we would a family member or friends. Talking to ourself in a calm manner.

practice self-care: making our physical and mental well-being top priority.

set boundaries: just as we would set with others, we need to set them for ourselves. We need to make boundaries so we do not hurt ourselves again in certain situations.

embrace imperfections: accept our mistakes and failures and work on a goal to make them into a positive manner.

mindfulness in the moment: place yourselves in the now moment and be gentle to yourself.

One way we can be kind to ourselves is to be our "best friend". The only best friend in the world is you. We need to admit our faults,mistakes, and negativity, and turn it into a positive feeling so we can be kinder to others.

When you do something positive, reward yourself with something you like, start by giving yourself positive affirmations.
