Building Self Esteem in our everyday life
Hi there. I am happy to introduce a thread on Building Self Esteem in our everyday life
Check out the first post it has directions you can follow to help boost your Self Esteem.
There are many steps we can practice every day to support our self esteem. These practices can be done all at once or stretched over a week or longer. They are your exercises to help you have a better opinion of yourself. Enjoy the Joy of being You. No one else can be you as well as you can.
The Challenge: Maintaining Self Esteem in the face of life challenges.
Method: By a combination of exercises, daily reminders, videos and being around solidly supportive people.
Here we go!
Practice #1 Write down on a notebook or piece of paper all the things you can think of that you do or would like to do to build self esteem. Here are Examples if you are drawing a blank:
A: Eating three meals a day that are focused on healthy foods with fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as adequate protein
B: Avoiding foods that contain large amounts of sugar, caffeine and food additives. If you can’t pronounce the ingredients, you may want to avoid it.
C: Getting outside and exercising every day.
D: Spending some time each day doing something you really enjoy.
E: Spending time each day with people who make you feel good about yourself.
F: Having regular check-ups with your health care providers.
Wow great ideas!
Practice #2 Describe yourself in 5 words or phrases or sentences.
Now look at those 5 descriptions of you. Which ones create a positive image? Which ones describe you in a negative light?
Practice #3 Watch this Video on how people build a sense of self worth. https://youtu.be/wC9S_fFMnaU
What did you think was most memorable in this video?
Practice #4 You have been working hard and deserve a rest. Try this short sitting Relaxation https://youtu.be/ycfXmXCWebo
Practice #5: Write down when you notice a thought describing you during the day in a notebook about some opinion or judgement or even positive thought. Leave a space big enough for a sentence or short phrase for a later exercise.
Practice #6 Now take the notebook entries you did in Practice #5 and write a different phrase that represents a higher sense of self esteem than the original thought or pat yourself on the back if it already was a self approving thought.
Practice #7 Compassion is one of the first steps to building self esteem. See how compassion and self esteem can build your feelings about yourself. Watch this Video https://youtu.be/IvtZBUSplr4
What is your takeaway from the video?
How could you start practicing that in your life?
Practice #8 Now after you have done all these practices, let's do the exercise writing in a notebook some of the thoughts you have about yourself during the day.
Practice #9 Take a look at the comments you made about yourself. Are the comments more positive than the first time you did the exercise? if so, kudos to you!
You can also write a revised comment that show a higher sense of self esteem.
@soulsings
Wow Soul, I love this. Writing things down can be so helpful, also going back reading it after a while. That's a great way to see your own progress over time, it can be eye-opening. I will absolutely give it a try❤
How can this esteem stop further decompensating? I saw people decompensate when I worked abroad. Never expected a mild brain injury to lead me to lose verbal skillset.
@soulsings
What an amazing exercise, thank you so much for this soul!
What stood out most in the video about Self Esteem to me is that no matter what we achieve in life, when it comes to self esteem it's about coming to terms with ourselves.
@soulsings Wow!!! This is so good! Thank you for posting this. Self-esteem has been a challenge for me, especially with a trauma history and chronic pain. It is an area my therapist and I are working on and she recommended journaling as part of my plan. I will be using this list and look forward to seeing positive shifts over time.
I watched the video again today, another thing that stood out for me was how important it is that we feel loved. Even if we feel there was a lack of love in our lives we still can give this love to ourselves by becoming our best friend at a later time.
