Feedback Requested: Therapist lead workshops
Hello everyone!
We are trying to collect feedback on the following idea. Please review it & let me know what you think!
Idea: Therapist lead workshops
How would it work:
A 7 Cups therapist would lead a one-off workshop in one of our group support chatrooms. It would be on topics relevant to the community (ex. Self-esteem workshop). The workshop would last between 1-2 hours. We'd cap the attendance so that the event would not be overly crowded (maybe 10-15 members could join). We'd create an open/ closed private chatroom for the purpose of this event.
Cost: We'd ask those of you who want to join to pay a small fee of between $10-20. This would be to cover the cost of the therapist's time.
Benefits:
-------> Direct access to a therapist
-------> Private group learning experience
-------> Curated discussion with a trained professional
-------> Enhanced learning and access to new resources
Note: This would not be group therapy. It would be a learning workshop to share ideas, gain knowledge & ask questions.
So... would you sign up for this? If the answer is yes, what topics would you like to see?
Do you have any feedback on the general idea?
Perfect to increase the extent of 7Cup's services as a lovely ambition! I think it'd be wonderful for those who're uncomfortable in 1-on-1 situations and/or have anxiety over real life attendance. :) The financial alternative for a professional service is always secondary, mind you, but it shouldn't be restricted too much as an option insofar as it's not overshadowing the core agenda of 7Cups.
@Laura
I like the idea. Topics I'd like to see would include anxiety, depression, OCD, loneliness, friendships.
@c6210
I agree
"in one of our group support chatrooms" I hope you don't mean in one of the already existing chatrooms?? Especially when you say it costs to get in and there's an attendance limit...
That would really get the conspiracy theorists in a fuss.
@Phthalo
I agree, I think it would be best to have a new chat room for it... Which is probably what they will do.
It would be nice, but I would not have the funds to afford it. Still, of course the therapist does deserve pay for his or her time.
I send 2 years on this site , now, can I consider myself therapist?
@fikarfiles
The therapists listed on 7 Cups have a graduate degree in the mental health field, and are licensed to practice psychotherapy.
It's a great idea. We're here because not everyone can find local resources, or has schedule challenges, or, prefers an online chat format instead of face-to-face (or mobility issues, etc.). Price vs group size seems reasonable. Having people pre-pay would improve attendance. It's not a resource I would use at this time but might if needed. *two thumbs up* When you say "therapist," what certification would they have? Thanks, redkite4725
@redKite4725
The therapists will have a graduate degree in the mental health field, usually an area of expertise, and they are licensed to provide psychotherapy or counseling. Most have had many years of experience, in multiple settings.
@LaraGregorio Thanks for the response.
I think that level of certification is good news for members and the site. There are issues where the presence of a professional is best, although I fully appreciate the value and quality of the volunteer listener and mod system here.
I like this idea, but I can't see spending money for an online workshop. Perhaps if I had a greater need I would. I can and have attended heatlh based workshops for free and also recieved materials at them. I would have a tough time justifying the cost to myself, even with it being something I can afford.
If there was something super specific that I would find beneficial then I would be more likely to pay.
I like the general idea but see problems with the fee. I would guess that lots of people here do not have funds for a therapist. The therapist already have a place to aquire patronage here. Perhaps they could donate the time for a group that will quite possibly bring them more business. I think they should be required to give something back to help when they have access to all this potential income.
