Join a Subcommunity!
What is a Sub-Community?
A Sub-Community is part of the 7 Cups Community or a smaller community within the community. It is a group of people who identify as struggling with the same issue. Together, they help one another, support one another, and form a community around this shared interest.
Each sub-community has its own chatroom and other means of support (for instance, most have their own forums for guiding discussions on specific topics).
Where can I find a Sub-Community?
Browse our list of Sub-Communities at 7 Cups >>HERE<<. You will find a brief description of each Sub-Community as well as direct links to the communities in each thread. Pick the ones that interest you and join a few!
What's in it for you?
❑ Different mediums for support
❑ Listeners can earn the "First Community" badge for the very First Sub-Community they choose to join. Members can earn the "Teammate" badge for joining their first Sub-Community.
❑ Different leadership roles for members and listeners!

What is the difference between going to the community section, and joining a particular community of choice, and accessing/belonging to a "sub" community? Maybe it is just the words that are confusing me. I may have been calling a sub-community a community all along, and in doing this, I have been wrong all along. I just know that there are and have been different ones to pick from, sign up with, receive information from after signing up with them, etc. Does everyone need to be signed up with the sub-community or particular community, to be able to access the info from the general calendar? For example, when a pop-up room opens for a sub-community/community of choice, will you need to be already signed up with it to be able to access it's pop-up group discussions?
Thank you

Hey, these are really good questions. 😊
What is the difference between going to the community section, and joining a particular community of choice, and accessing/belonging to a "sub" community?
"Subcommunity" (or "subcom" for short) is the official name for all of the specific topic-based forum sections (e.g. depression subcommunity, anxiety subcommunity). But lots of people (myself included) also sometimes use the term "community" interchangeably to refer to the same thing (e.g. depression community, anxiety community).
"Going to the community section" I assume would mean clicking the "Community" tab at the top to access the part of the site that displays all of the subcommunities that can be accessed.
"Belonging to a subcommunity", "joining a subcommunity", and "subscribing to a subcommunity" are interchangeable and mean the same thing of going to a subcommunity's home page and clicking the "Join" button at the top. Currently, the only effects of this that I'm aware of are the following:
- If there are new featured threads for the subcom, you'll get a notification alert (in black text)
- 7 Cups has a couple places where it displays all of the subcoms you're subscribed to so you can more easily access them.
Nope! Anybody can use the general calendar to find events/discussion for any subcommunities across the whole site.
For example, when a pop-up room opens for a sub-community/community of choice, will you need to be already signed up with it to be able to access it's pop-up group discussions?
Nope, you don't have to belong to a subcommunity in order to access its group discussions. There are some general requirements for joining any topic-based group discussion (described HERE), but once you meet those you can join any group discussion.
