The Spectrum of Intention

I was reading online about the spectrum of intention, and what to do when a project starts to feel like a chore. Leadership itself can be a creative project in the sense that your ideas can be creative and your own.

Often deadlines... quotas... can sometimes make it feel like we HAVE to do something, like reach a certain amount of forum posts, certain amount of chats with listeners, and certain amount of group chats. Reaching quotas itself can be draining and suck out the fun of being a leader.

It is important to take time and reflect when this happens. For example, near the end of the month, many leaders might be telling themselves they need to hit a certain quota before the new month. If you believe someone is forcing you, it is understandable to feel reluctant. Oppression leads to resistance.

Changing the framework from I have to, to I'm choosing this can be helpful. No one has forced us to be leaders, yet we choose to be leaders.

Then consider, we actually want to be leaders. We don't want just the outcome of reaching quotas but we want to do the work on 7cups.

Finally, we get to be leaders on 7cups! We get to inspire and make a difference. Even though we don't get paid, we take the time to do things that matter to us. That's awesome!

Leaders, tell me how you can use the spectrum of intention to help with any blocks you're having as a leader.

@Remina Thank you so much for sharing this💛

Leadership can definitely get overwhelming when the deadlines and quotas start to pile up. But when I take a step back and remind myself that I chose this and that I’m here because I care and want to make a difference, it helps me reconnect with the heart of it all.

Besides, it turns pressure into purpose and makes the journey feel a whole lot brighter✨

Yess! Purpose is SO important. I like to think it makes it easier to get up in the morning when we have a purpose.

I love this! 🌻 I think it's helpful even outside the context of leadership, with tasks in general. It reminds me of ownership vs obligation - how if we only do things we have ownership over (aka things we want to do or have reasons to do) and maintain or reconnect with this sense of ownership when things start feeling like 'have-tos', we tend to feel a lot more empowered and happy with less resistance to doing the task. It helps to remind myself of my reasons for doing things. Thanks for sharing!
