World Diabetes Day 2022

TW: Diabetes is said to be a silent killer. Once a person acquires this condition, it is very hard to reverse or cure it.
Disclaimer: This is general and introductory information to raise awareness about the disease. Please do not consider it as a medical advice and check in with a professional before making changes in your diet or lifestyle

Diabetes (type 2) is a diet and lifestyle related disease. If not controlled, it leads to many other diseases that include gradual organ failure.

It is a misconception that Diabetes is caused by sweet foods. NO!
It is caused by foods that have High Glycemic Index (foods that raise glucose level after consumption)

Diabetes can be caused by many non-sweet foods too. The biggest example being white bread.

It is no coincidence that white bread consumption and diabetes are on the rise worldwide.

According to CDC, 38% of adults (18 or over) are prediabetic. It means they are likely to diagnose with diabetes in future if the diet or lifestyle is not changed.

And since diabetes is no longer a disease that only affects middle or old aged people, it becomes much more important to understand an prevent it better.

The following image shows a list of Low Glycemic Index foods

@DonaldDraper

The biggest myth indeed, thankyou for busting it, and for making this informative, awareness-raising post, Donziee.

Diabetes is a horrible horrible condition, one of those "invisible" ones that many don't acknowledge enough.

Lifestyle changes and making conscious healthy living choices is greatly helpful, I feel, to also "manage" it, especially when it's something in the family (hereditary), one can try to be more careful.

Sending love to everyone fighting this battle, either as a lived experience or seeing and being a caregiver for a loved one struggling with it. ❤

Oh yeah as for adding one of the options to my diet, I could personally live off of only grapes xD Seedless only lol

  1. @DonaldDraper 🙏🏼
  2. Have been told in the past I'm hypoglycaemic...is that pre-diabetic?
  3. Tried having pasta and a smoothie every day and that seemed to be pretty easy to do and delicious!
  4. May try that again so will be adding pasta and lettuce to my daily diet. Oh, and milk because coffee and ice cream are staples mkay
