Tips to fight insomnia?
What are your best tips to fight insomnia?
For me, when I can't sleep it's usually because I can't turn my mind off, so I have to occupy myself with something that takes just enough thought to prevent my mind from going into overdrive. I usually watch an episode of something online in bed to clear my mind and sleep.
When my mind is racing, I write out everything that is concerning me and develop solutions/answers to those concerns. In effect, solving the issues that are running over and over in my head.
However, that's only for those times when things are running over and over in my head.
Sometimes when my mind is racing, I write down my thoughts. It feels like putting it on paper is like putting those thoughts to rest. once I put my journal down, I find some distractions like videos, tv shows, or music until I can finaly fall asleep.
As silly as this sounds, I shake my head pretending that the problems are nowshaken off. Then I listen to soothing music and somehow fall asleep. But then I'd wake up at least 4 times throughout my sleep.
Sometimes I just have to write down the thoughts that are keeping me up, sometimes I go to YouTube and find something soothing and nostalgic (music, a tv show, for me personally quiet let's plays of old video games put me right to sleep).
If I'm feeling upset about something though, I hopon this website and chat with a listener just to get the thoughts out, then do one of the above things to sooth me to sleep after I get the swirling thoughts out.
Yellow Brick Cinema on youtubeis amazing! So helpful. Before I started using it, I went almost 4 days without sleep. Now I am managing to get 2-4 hours before waking up!!!
Please try it :)

When my sister first died I couldn't sleep for weeks and I didn't talk to anyone about it. But after I talked to my bestie about it and took time to accept the fact that she was gone I finally was able to sleep. I'm not sure if that's the same but that what I did
When my mind will not stop racing, I try to get it to focus on something other than what is keeping me awake...something less destructive. For example, I will mentally go through the alphabet trying to name a rock band for each letter, or a song title, or color, or city, plant, etc. anything boring enough to keep me from ruminating about the things that keep me from sleeping. Sometimes it helps.
I try not to force myself to sleep when I don't feel like sleeping. Go when you're sleepy. Open windows to get fresh air in room, be sure that are your needs(like hunger, going to the bathroom etc) are plesaured. That is a bit helpful for me.
I have severe anxiety and can't sleep most days but I find ASMR videos on youtube soooo helpful. Gentle Whispers and Olivia Kissper are my favorites. They are so calming and usually after listening to them I can sleep. I also take melatonin. Hot baths, and drinking tea helps me too.
I am having the same issue. My mind races too much for me to be able to sleep. I found that melatonin pills help me. The recommended amount is 3mg-6mg per night. I take 6mg a night and it knocks me right out. Plus it's natural, so it's a better alternative to other medicines I used to fall asleep (nyquil, etc.). I'm not sure what the long-term effects of using melatonin is.
It's nice that you want to help others, but please don't recommend taking any kind of a med product because for someone it could be harmful. Anyway, thanks for sharing, but that's against the rules, and we know you wanted to help. So it's okay. Just watch out next time. :)
I'm sorry, I didn't know melatonin counted as a med! Thanks for letting me know.

Somewhere it is..
It causes some people to have night terrors (myself included)
@koichihirose I've just been prescribed this but where I'm from its not funded so will be at least $30 a month. I'm hoping to try it for the month and see if it helps. I'm poati e with being a natural product. I find (please delete if not aloud) I take magnesium supplements which help me relax, less headaches from mussle tension and sleep. I eat a lot of foods rich in both magnesium and melatonin which is really good for me
