This is a really really good question xD Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems like you're wondering how the work an intern at 7cups does is different from that of a listener who's not an intern? It's not THAT different, actually ; that is why you might have noticed that a lot of listeners (some new, and some who have been here longer) are taking up the internship. Because, hey, if you're going to be spending time here, listening and all, might as well get it accredited as well right? :D Maybe I'm not exactly the best person to be answering this question, but having completed the internship myself, let me try. So basically ...

✬ You might be an intern, but the FOCUS is still spending time listening to members/guests in 1-1 chats. I believe the minimum number of hours per week that you need to spend on this is 10 hours (per week). If you've taken a look at the intern application form, you'll notice that you have to specify at the start how many hours you want to spend on this. Also, note that this is the time spent on active/online chats where you and the member/guest are sending messages back and forth without more than several minutes gap in between. So offline chats where you exchange offline messages won't count here. Also regarding the time calculation, if you spend 1 hour listening to 3 members (Eh, just to add here that I don't take more than 1 chat at a time but some people are able to do that without compromising on quality or response time.. so well ...) , that counts as 3 hours spent listening.

✬ One thing that you'll do as an intern, in addition to your normal listening activities, is participate in community outreach programmes. This is a major part of the internship and something that sets apart interns and just listeners on the site. So as part of the internship, you'll have to earn AT LEAST 70 referral clicks plus you'll have to engage in 5 offline outreach efforts (distribute flyers in a public, community space and get somebody there who gave you the permission to verify this at the end) . An alternative to the 5 offline outreach efforts is the campus leader programme .

✬ As part of the internship you'll also be required to complete ALL the training courses . (As an intern that's a REQUIREMENT to pass the internship, but as an active listener here that's optional though some might be required for leadership positions in the community.)

✬ You'll also have to make at least 1 feed post (reposts count :D) and at least 1 forum post (replies count as a "post" too) each day. But if for some reason you can't or you forget, you can make up for this the next day. You'll also have to complete at least 2 group chats per week.

✬ You'll also have to earn the verified listener badge, the group moderator badge, and the peer support badge. These are requirements for interns but not requirements (though the VL badge is especially encouraged) for active listeners who aren't interns. In this way the internship also enables and encourages you to get involved, like this, in the community in more ways than just through listening to members/guests in 1-1 chats (which I think is extremely awesome!)

✬ You'll also have to earn the small chat badge, meaning you'll have to send at least 1000 messages in the listener rooms.

✬ Lastly, you'll have to track and record all your efforts/progress in a weekly evaluation form every monday. E.g number of chats, number of feed posts, number of forum posts, badges earned that week etc. The rest of us who aren't interns don't have to xD (though, haha, we CAN write a scrum report IF we wanted to! )

✬ Naturally, the internship might seem easier for listeners who've been here a while compared to new listeners. E.g A listener who already has the peer support, group mod and verified listener badges, and who's already completed all the training courses, and who is pretty much already involved in all aspects of the site .. the forums , the feeds, the listener chatrooms, the group support rooms, and 1-1 chats with members/guests, will probably find this easier than a new listener. But, hey, I took on this internship when I was really new and it was what encouraged me to get involved in other areas :D So I think that though it might be easier to complete for more veteran listeners, well integrated into the community, it might be really slightly more useful to new listeners especially if you plan on sticking around :D

Also, P.S. all of this should be clearly laid out if you choose to apply to be an intern. It will be sent to you in the form of an internship kit via email I think. But I hope this gives you an idea, sort of at least :D I think it's great that you want to know exactly what you might be getting yourself into, before taking it on! ♥

@selfdisciplinedBalloon6940 This sounds like a really awesome idea :D I know that at the moment the 7cups internship has a 70% focus on providing emotional support to members/guests through active listening and the remaining 30% is on community outreach (online and offline). But this might be real possibility and definitely worth considering ♥ Thanks for bringing it up! Just to make sure that it doesn't get missed, do you want to submit your suggestion to the suggestion box ?

@louislittlewhitelies Hey! Yep, you have to be 15 to join as a listener, and that's not too far away for you, it seems ♥ I can't wait for the day you become a teen listener, yay! Exciting :D

It is my understanding that though the internship is being publicized in the forums to encourage people to join because it's definitely a really meaningful and fun way to spend the summer, listeners are STILL able to sign up for the internship at any time during the year. There's no specific deadline for each intake or anything like that. In the application form, you can specify which day you want to start .. absolutely your choice .. whenever you like! Of course, due to the rigour of the internship, it MIGHT be easier to manage during the summer break?(personal preference xD) Basically, I think it's possible, if you're interested, to still become an intern after you join as a listener, any time during the year.

But yeah, bottom line, I don't think it's just an opportunity that's available only during the summer ; I think you can do it any time during the year.

You can sign up for the internship at any time. Be it summer or fall or else. I did it from Nov to Feb.

@SheKnowsHope--often programs that require direct supervision will have a professor who can provide that supervision with information from us.
