From Academy Games to support World Mental Health Day 2021, check out what they said about ideas on how to break the stigma surrounding mental health:

  • I feel like the hidden word is helpful because at its best it allows one to connect with the core reality of what a person is experiencing, bypass some of the preconceived judgments that can come with attaching a label, and bridge the gap between "normal" and "abnormal". Lots of things that seem "crazy" actually make a lot of sense if someone is willing to step into a perspective and try to understand it.

  • I am glad such a day exists! My idea is to empower more people to break the stigma, seek support and be open about their mental health conditions. To break the stigma, we can normalize, make people more aware and assure everyone support and comfort along their healing journey by encouraging the belief that they ain't ever alone.

  • Talking openly about mental health and educating both yourself and others on the realities and struggles of mental illnesses. We should try to support people and show empathy and compassion to those who struggle with mental health issues. It is also important to be aware of our own attitudes and language and remind others to do the same.

  • To break the stigma surrounding mental health, we should definitely educate others about mental health, either through social media or offline events!

  • To break the stigma surrounding mental health, I would create awareness posts and reach out to a maximum number of people to tell them that it is OKAY to be not okay. It is okay to ask for help.

  • Education and mental health literacy are so important to break the stigma. The more normalized the conversations and topics are, the less people will think of them as weird or taboo, or uncomfortable.

  • Have empathy, be non-judgemental, and go easy.

  • We can host more discussions and speak up!

  • I believe people should research mental health before judging others.

  • Talking about it more and being more open towards it. Just talking about it and spreading information about it is a wonderful step to breaking the stigma in my opinion since people can gain a better understanding of it this way and see that it’s more common than they might think to struggle mentally.

  • To be honest with mental health conditions.

@ouiCherie

#CompassionOverShame 👌🏻

I really hope it were the most normal thing to talk about mental health, we as humankind have been progressing definitely ( yay ) but there's still a long way to go , I feel ~ to reach that level of normalcy, is the first and foremost motive to break the stigma !

It is necessary to break the stigma so that more people could become aware that they ain't alone , there are others in the same boat ~ I use this expression because i truly believe things, even difficult things seem slightly easier and better to handle when we aren't alone , when we know what is happening is normal and our reactions, emotions , response to these are as normal and valid too !

It is vital to break the stigma so that more people can become open about their mental health , be more open to seek support and be more gentle towards themselves given the reassurance that , it is okay to not be okay and their mental health is valid and important enough to acknowledge !

@Sunisshiningandsoareyou

Great points there Sun! And I hope it doesn't stop in here 💜

One time a coworker ate lunch at her desk, I asked why and she said because her boss body-shamed her all the time in front of people. It took a toll on her self-esteem.

I went to him and I told him, what he did to her is called body shaming and in our law, he can be sue for that.

He denied it, said he did it to motivate her to lose weight. But he did tone it down though.

We still have a long way to go.
