What’s a small act of kindness you were once shown that you’ll never forget?

I've met many earth angels and some have left unforgettable footprints. The following act of kindness is not small, but it is simple yet touching.

It was a hot afternoon a few years ago, and an old man that I had never seen before and hadn't seen again since, passed my house on foot. He was selling traditional snacks that he carried in a basket that hung from a piece of wood that he held on his shoulders. It is unusual for sellers to enter the complex because of safety concerns.

I thought I'd pay him more so he could keep the change. Instead, he gave me more than the money I gave. I told him, "Don't do that. Those extras are not just snacks. Those are your money", he smiled and replied, "I've received many blessings today, so it's my turn to share". He gave me hope for humanity and taught me to share everyday.

I feel like it's not small, but I still want to share.

Last year I went to get an eye exam, and I didn't have enough money for the glasses I wanted, so I asked the technician if they could put the style number and stuff in my chart so when I got paid I could go back and order them and then I left.

About 5 minutes after I left the office I got a call from the front desk at the eye doctor's place saying that someone paid for my glasses!

There was also a day I wanted Starbucks, but I couldn't really afford it, but was about to splurge, the person in front paid for my order, and usually I keep it going and pay for the person behind me, but that day I allowed it to be a gift because it was a rough day and I knew spending the money I had wouldn't make anything better.

I also try to do random acts of kindness. There are a lot of homeless people in my city and sometimes I will buy cold drinks or an extra snack when I go in the store or gas station and give them to people, especially when I don't have cash, but have a bit extra on a card.

A few years ago I was staying with my youngest in our local children's hospital. She had surgery, and it had not gone to plan resulting in a longer than usual stay for us. These stays always have the moms bede facto nurses. Besides the usually advocacy role you generally do just about everything except wound care and med dispensing... All while sleeping nights in chair with a million interruptions, no regular meals, and showers in the wash room when you can grab them. It just so happened this coincided with Christmas.

On Christmas morning, I went down to the family center off of the lobby to get a cup of coffee and stretch my legs. A local group had set up a whole coffee table with donuts and bagels... And soft blankets in gift bags for parents. I hadn't even realized how overwhelmed, worried, and lacking in care for myself I had been until I grabbed my donut and noticed my hand shaking... And started full on crying with my big tears splashing in my coffee. One off the volunteers noticed and patted my arm, but I couldn't even tell her why I was crying .

The whole thing was such a simple and kind gesture, and it touched me so deeply that volunteers would come out and do this on Christmas morning and offer this very humanizing thing when it was so badly needed. That was over three years ago and the memory of it has me crying even as I remember it and write it here.

The women in front of me commented on how delicious my pizza smelled then she paid for it and she enjoyed a piece of pizza once we got out of the store :-)
