A Talk On Self-Care With dancingEagle56!
Talker: @dancingEagle56
What is your idea of spending a balanced time on 7cups? Share your idea of how a good day looks like on 7cups, for you.
A good day on 7cups would start by me having a good day myself. If you’re drowning it’d be hard to help someone else who’s drowning. So for me, it’s important that I feel good and happy before I jump on 7cups to spread that positivity.
What challenges did you face in trying to strike that balance?
It brings me joy to help someone on 7cups but it can also be a draining process. Not all 7cups chats are the same and not all carry the same weight. Not that other problems matter less, just some people need stronger swimmers. Sometimes we get difficult chats we don’t expect but it’s important to recharge those batteries and take care of ourselves so we can jump back in to get someone else through the waves.
How did you try to deal with those challenges?
Patience. Not everything in our lives is going to have an immediate answer or an answer at all. Sometimes we need the patience to think through our problems or just the patience to settle and become more comfortable with our current challenges. Not all problems last forever and those that do we learn to live with.
What are the benefits of improving your balance for the time you spend on cups?
If I take the time to be happier I create the opportunity to share that happiness with others inside 7cups and in my actual life.
What message would you like to give to the cupsers who have come to be negatively attached to cups, in one of the many ways?
I think we all try to attach onto the things that bring us joy. It's great to find something that makes you happy and want to spend more time with that thing that’s making you smile so much. Just pace yourself. “What do I need today?” Think about what you need today. Is it 7cups? Is it getting those pesky taxes out of the way? Showering? Studying for that test you still know nothing about!?!?!? Smiling is important but remember life would also be boring without the challenges. Work on the challenges and work on your happiness, you’ll feel better about facing the challenges and lighter when facing others.

I find it fascinating that someone only comes to 7 cups when they are happy. I definitely mostly come here when I'm struggling. I'm so pleased when I'm able to help someone else. It makes me very happy. But this is a whole different level to aspire to.
But balance, totally. Right now I have a balance of helping vs being helped that's right for me. I shall aspire to a shift in the balance while being satisfied with where I'm at right now.
Interesting post.
@Clarisse29 - Hello, Clarisse! As always, thank you for sharing another wonderful interview with us. I always enjoy reading these talks, and they are so insightful. 🤗
@dancingEagle56 - Hello, Eagle! It is very nice to meet you. I can see that you are very passionate with regards to these questions and about self-care in general, and I appreciate your eye-opening responses. You are so right that we all should have the foundation of a good day for ourselves in our offline world before we can have a good day on 7 Cups. It's difficult to support others if you are not doing very well yourself. Like you said, giving support is a draining process, and as the supporters, we need to take care of ourselves before we can help others. And you are so right- we need to have patience with ourselves in order to think through our problems and adapt to our challenges. Finally, I absolutely love your ending message: "Smiling is important but remember life would also be boring without the challenges." ~ I couldn't have said it better myself; challenges are what make us stronger, allow us to grow, and also give us the chance to experience happiness. Again, thank you so much for your amazing responses! ❤️
