Alcohol addiction

How do you stop drinking when you don’t want to do it for yourself? My only motivation to quit is I hate the weight gain rhat comes with it. I don’t care about my health aside from looking good and I don’t like myself. I was sober after getting dumped for a month and a half but recently relapsed hard and have found myself drinking six nights a week. I want to do moderation and cut back but the only time I don’t feel completely numb is when I’m drunk. My depression has been terrible (not just cause of the breakup there’s lots of things in my life that have been piling up but the breakup was the straw that broke the camels back) and I’m not sure how to fix something like this.

I do not think it sticks unless you are doing it for yourself.

Starting with seeing weight gain and other health issues is a good reason. finding other outlets like exercise or finding something else to take your mind off feeling bad about things.    My spouse is in recovery and since he was doing more things like taking up bike riding to have a feel of accomplishment.

I can relate, I've been gaining weight as a result of drinking and not wanting to exercise or even just move around more...it's a hard cycle to break and my days off are usually spent sitting on my porch drinking or sitting on my couch watching TV. I'm trying to find something to do that gets me off my butt, so far my interest is zilch
