Anxiety caused by home?

Hello, I just joined the community. I hope I'm not making any major mistakes, if so please forgive me and let me know!

(Content note: anxiety and family issues)

I was wondering if anyone feels especially anxious at home and what do you do about it? My family's dynamic makes me incredibly worried and stressed, to the point where I feel like I can't get out of bed because if I wake up I'll have to interact with them. I cannot afford to move out right now, but even if I could, they would take it as a rejection. I'm unsure how to deal with this. If anyone has insights, I'd appreciate it.

@rhodawoolf

I think anxiety is different for many but the one thing i know in my world is avoiding it does nothing to resolve.

Yes the family dynamic can lead to it many feel this way ... you only have control of you but if you can help the family or even one member change how they communicate or react... it can change the whole thing. i think when you can move out it is for you and cannot hold your self back because of other peoples reaction or your expectation of how they will take it.

my kids told me and spouse our communication sucked and we woke up and fixed it ... i mean we knew it was not effective but the fact it was effecting kids ......made it move up the list of things to fix. it helped our ability to all interact.

@toughTiger6481 thank you for your support ☀️

Unfortunately, one of my parents and my siblings are not open to such conversations and consider therapy fake. I'm afraid I'll cause more tension if I try to reason with them.

I'll work on my outlook and on possibly moving out... Thank you again for your kindness

My parents are difficult too. The type where it can be hard to hear yourself think because they're so constantly talking and thinking out loud, and because they can be judgemental of the smallest and most insignificant details they notice. Also the type where you walk on eggshells because they have a hard time managing their emotions and communicating peacefully and respectfully. Also the type where you have to learn to distance yourself from what they say and not take things personally in order to have peaceful interactions with them.

They're the type that haven't taught me to manage my own emotions properly and whom I feel the need to get away from to feel at peace and work on my emotions in a calm environment.

So yeah, I do feel anxious around them, and I even wonder to what extent their behaviour has given rise to and fed my anxiety in general.

The only advice I know (and try to follow myself) is to mentally distance yourself from them and let things slide (which I grant you is no peace of cake), and to move out as soon as you can, to be able to enjoy peaceful little amounts of time with them afterwards.

Thank you so much for sharing and I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this too. It's encouraging to know you're getting by though, I'll try to do the same.

I think if I just manage to accept that I can't control their actions or help them communicate among themselves, I'll be able to let things slide. It is certainly hard though. Sending you strength to deal with it too

@rhodawoolf

I'm dealing with this too. Its so bad I mostly will hold it and not use the bathroom until I absolutely must go. Tbh I just try to read and pretend they're not there. When I do have to interact, I use a "customer service" attitude. Pleasant, responsive.

@pandaprincess9 Thank you for the advice!

I'm sorry you have to deal with this, it's so tough.

I want to disconnect from them too, but it's very hard because I still love them and I also don't want them to fight with each other and hurt each other

Ohh I feel that. It's good that you have that love for them, but its excruciatingly hard to see them like that (sounds a lot like my childhood). Sending you love and hope. I hope they can learn to treat each other better. Sometimes the best you can do in those times is to protect your heart while you give the love. If it wouldn't threaten yiur safety, you might even talk to them about how you feel, because your feelings on this are very valid.
