A question
So often times I get such heart pounding anxiety I cannot sleep at night, especially before anxious events. Being exhausted on top of pumping adrenaline only tends to make things worse, how can I get to sleep if my adrenaline's going? Very serious question.

@genericbeing Thank you for opening up. It can feel like your heart is literally out and like an electric shock.
Its ok to completely ask yourself where that fear is coming from.
If you could be a parent to the child part of you what would you say as an encourager? Its ok to connect to the child part of you.
All you can do as cliched as it sounds is give of your best and ask yourself of the distractions.
Break things down into simple steps and ask what environment serves you well.
Is the thought of wanting to be in control something that is or isn't serving you well?
(Apologies as i can appreciate this may be a trigger for some) What is very important too to consider is if you are sleeping and eating well?
Grounding exercises are said to be quite helpful in getting focus on the present - you may like smelling some nice scents as a way of calming any anxiety or thinking of thoughts and feelings that don't serve you well as pebbles being thrown into the water.

@genericbeing Hey there! Sorry to hear you're struggling with this, I've been there too many times.
I think by how you phrased your question you realize as I do, that there's no way you're going to get any sleep with a pounding heart and racing mind. I would to try to remember that your first priority doesn't have to be sleep, if I worry about sleep when I try to sleep, I won't sleep! So I try to worry about calming myself first. How do I get my heart rate down, how do I get my body calm. Once I do that I can start thinking about sleep itself.
Hope this helps! I'm sorry you're struggling, I know how hard going without sleep can be. I hope you're able to see improvement soon!
melatonin can help if you start to feel anxious the night before. Motion sickness medicine as well since they contain antihistamines which can make you a bit drowsy. Remember there’s no downfall in taking something to calm you down every once in a while. Sleep is important and very necessary to make you less anxious morning after. Good luck, hope it helps!
